CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS TO SERVE AT VARIOUS GAUTENG HOSPITAL BOARDS
The MEC for Heath, Dr GM Ramokgopa, invites nominations for community representatives to serve on the Hospital Boards in the Province of Gauteng for the term starting from March 2019 to April 2022. The nominees are invited to apply to serve as Hospital Board members in hospitals any of the 34 Government Hospitals in Gauteng.
Requirements: In order to be considered for appointment, nominees most meet one or more of the following criteria:• Astute and seasoned professionals with skills in either legal, finance, strategic management, information management, human resources, governance, medical and/or a medical background will be considered for the respective vacancies • Also a member or members of the community served by the particular hospital with proven and record of community development and involvement are invited for nominations.
The role of the Hospital Boards will be to serve as a resource to the management of the hospital on the range of organisational matters as well as be supervisory oversight on the management of the Board as delegated by the Executive Authority. Furthermore, Hospital Boards will be expected to respond to the needs of the community in which the hospital is located, thus a need of candidate to demonstrate community involvement.
All interested persons wishing to tender their application for consideration to serve as member of hospital board must submit the following documents: • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae • Certified copies of qualifications, ID, valid registration relevant to the applicable profession • Consent in writing by the nominee to serve on the Hospital Board • Brief motivation and name of the Hospital at which the nominee wishes to serve • Failure to comply with these instructions will disqualify nominations from being processed.
Interested candidates should reside within the catchment area of the hospital where the vacancies have arisen.
Please note that Hospital Boards are not an opportunity for employment, thus an honorarium will be given to members for performing functions related to the role of Hospital Boards.

SECOND PUBLIC CALL FOR NOMINATION OF CLINIC COMMITTEES
The Gauteng MEC for Health, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, calls for the Gauteng community to nominate individuals to serve as Clinic Committees following loss of records from the initial call.
Clinic Committees are statutory bodies appointed by the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Health Department according to Section 42 of the National Health Act, No fit of 2003. Their main objectives include promoting effective and efficient governance through public participation, to assist the clinics in addressing the health needs of the communities served, to ensure accountability and effective management of facilities.
Submissions must be made to the local clinic and include the nominating person/organisation, the profile of the nominee and contacts of relevant references.
NB:Those who were nominated from the first public call must be re-nominated.
The criteria for appointment includes: • Persons older than 18 years of age • Persons who have not been certified by a court of law as being of unsound mind • Persons who have not previously been convicted of a crime without an option of a fine, unless: They have received a free pardon *A period of ten (10) years has expired since release from prison and certified as fully rehabilitated by the Department of Correctional Services • The person must reside in the community served by the clinic • Must have sound knowledge, understanding and involvement in community work • Must at least have sound knowledge of the heath sector • Must have skills and/or experience in management, finance, legal, human resources and community development and leadership • Person most at least have a Matric.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT ON A CALL TO FILL VACANCIES IN MENTAL HEALTH REVIEW BOARDS
The Gauteng MEC for Health, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, callsfor applications to fill vacancies on respective Gauteng Mental Health Review Boards in terms of the Mental Healthcare Act, 17 of 2002.
The members of the Mental Health Review Boards are expected to, among other issues, perform the following: • Consider appeals against decisions of the head of a heath establishment • Make decisions with regard to assisted or involuntary mental healthcare, treatment and rehabilitation services • Consider reviews and make decisions on assisted or involuntary mental healthcare users • Consider 72-hour assessment made by the head of the health establishment and make decisions to provide further involuntary care, treatment and rehabilitation • Consider applications for transfer of mental healthcare users to maximum security facilities; and • Consider periodic reports on the mental health status of mentally ill prisoners.
Suitable candidates must have either of the following areas of expertise: • Mental healthcare practitioner and/or • Magistrate, an attorney or an advocate admitted in terms of the law of the Republic.
