Job summary
Manage the Heritage and Knowledge department which consist of Research, Innovation Function, Curatorship and Heritage Education in order to achieve the strategic objectives of Freedom Park.

Key performance areas
1. Identify, develop and direct the effective implementation of the department’s business strategy to promote reconciliation and nation building. These include Heritage education, Research and Innovation (knowledge centre), Curatorship and Archiving.
2. Ensure collated operational plans are in line with the organisation’s medium term strategies.
3. Establish and maintain constructive relations with various organisations and institutions in the heritage and related sectors to ensure delivery of effective programs.
4. Set up strategies aimed at enhancing the quality of programs.
5. Take accountability for the effective implementation of all projects within the department in line with budgetary requirements and stipulated timeframes and quality standards.
6. Harness the value of teamwork within the department to ensure the achievement of the organisation objectives.
7. Provide supervisory support to personnel for effective performance and delivery.
 
 
PRE-REQUISITES
 
Education
Master’s degree in Museum and heritage studies or equivalent
 
Experience
Experience in the following:
  • 5 years in Senior Management experience within the Museum or Heritage Industry
  • At least 10 years’ experience in arts, culture, heritage and indigenous knowledge systems
 
Skills Requirements
  • Strategic and operational Management knowledge of heritage resources.
  • Communication skills (verbal and writing) to engage and relate with the Public
  • Preservation and conservation
  • Diversity management
  • Conflict resolution
  • Project Management
  • Relevant policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of South African history
 
Competencies
  • Ability to give strategic direction, teamwork, good communication skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to manage activities of various team members from within the organisation and outside.
  • Ability to multitask, high professional standards, policy development, problem solving, analysis, decision making, work under pressure and administration.


Salary is Negotiable
