Purpose of the Job
To coordinate the Management Effectiveness Programme of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife relating to both KZN`s Protected Area (PA) estate and Conservation Districts (CD).
 
 
Area of Responsibility
Based in Head Office, Pietermaritzburg, the position reports to the Scientific Manager: Conservation Planning.
 
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum of an Honours Degree in Biological/, Ecological or Conservation sciences/, equivalent is mandatory.
  • Registration as a Professional Natural Scientist (Conservation Science or equivalent) with SACNASP is desired. 
  • Valid Code EB Driver`s License is mandatory.
 
Experience Required
  • Four (4) years’ operational experience in coordinating management effectiveness (ME); providing scientific decision support for conservation management as well as in conducting research is mandatory.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in supervising staff is desired.
 
 
Key Competencies Required
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, legal processes and legal framework.
  • Understanding of protected areas and conservation districts and associated conservation management.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesizing protected area and conservation districts management effectiveness (ME) data and determine long term trends.
  • Knowledge of management effectiveness methodologies.
  • Ability to engage with and lead a diverse array of stakeholders.
  • Good coordination and liaison skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Professional data collation and analytical (statistical) skills.
  • Computer literate including database literacy.
 
 
Key Performance Areas
  • Coordinate the Ezemvelo management effectiveness programme for protected areas and conservation districts.
  • Data collation and critical analyses.
  • Database design and data archiving.
  • Report on protected area and district conservation management effectiveness.
  • Writing reports with recommendations on how to improve management effectiveness within the adaptive management framework.
  • Contribute to the drafting of the KZN State of Biodiversity report.
  • Liaise with provincial and national bodies and generating a provincial protected area ME status report.
  • Supervision of staff.
