CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Position Summary: The Chief Financial Officer role is responsible for the provision of strategic leadership on financial matters and oversee financial activities within the organisation by providing professional and ethical financial practices and delivering an effective finance service offering that is aligned with business and the organisation’s strategy. The Chief Financial Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The seniority and grading of the role will be determined during the recruitment process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in communicating the Vision, Mission, Objectives, Principles, Values, and the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
- Provide strategic oversight in the development of the Division’s Annual Performance Plan (APP) and the Business Units Operational Plans.
- Work with the executive team, EXCO, Council and various ECSA committees to develop and maintain a strategic perspective based on external environment and the constituencies needs and direction.
- Provide strategic direction in respect of financial management and participate in the strategic planning processes of the organisation.
- Ensure that budget processes are aligned to strategic planning processes and performance outputs.
- Review Financial services performance and make recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, governance and risk management of all business processes.
- Develop and review Finance policies for input from the CEO and approval by the Council thereof.
- Manage the administration of the organisation’s bank accounts and the preparation and implementation of the budget.
- Advise senior managers on budgeting, accounting, analysis, financial reporting, cash management, debt management and other duties as delegated to the CEO from time to time.
- Lead and oversee effective reporting frameworks within the organisation.
- Prepare and facilitate the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements for presentation and submission to the CEO and Council within stipulated timeframes and in accordance with prescribed norms and standards.
- Lead and oversee the payroll process.
- Ensure the establishment of systems, procedures and processes to ensure efficient and effective banking and cash management.
- Initiate, design and co-ordinate the annual budgeting process.
- Ensure regular staff development in order to improve efficiency.
- Ensure that performance agreements and development plans are developed and implemented for all staff within the Business Unit.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Post Graduate Financial Qualification i.e. BCom (Accounting) with Financial and Management Accounting or equivalent qualification.
- Registered chartered accountant with South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years’ financial management experience.
- 5 years should be at Senior Management level.
- Proficiency with accounting software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills.
Knowledge, Skill and Competency:
- Good working knowledge of Generally Recognized Accounting Principles (GRAP).
- Detailed working knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations specific to SA businesses.
- Keeping abreast of audit processes, internal and external.
- Understanding of management accounting principles.
- Problem solving skills; be able to think out the box and be solution driven.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to think strategically and be innovative.
- Must be able to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
