The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) was established in terms of the ECPTA Act (Act no.2 of 2010) and is a Schedule 3c Provincial Public Entity, with a vision to be: “A province where Biodiversity Conservation and Tourism Management underpin sustainable development,” aligned with the mission: “to be the premier entity for managing biodiversity and tourism”.
CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER – CMO (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS)
Centre: Head Office (East London)
Salary: Level E1 (Salary negotiable commensurate with experience)
(5 year contract position – cost to company package)
Purpose
Reporting to the CEO, the CMO shall be responsible to provide strategic leadership and management in relation to the marketing, promotion and development of the Eastern Cape Province as a tourism destination in accordance with Section 13 of the ECPTA Act No. 2 of 2010 as well as the marketing of the ECPTA and its nature reserves. It will also be responsible for Corporate Communications and Media.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Marketing / Business Management / Communication or relevant equivalent qualification.
- 5 years relevant senior management experience in marketing, tourism promotion and communications.
- Relevant experience in strategic planning and management of projects.

Key Performance Areas
- Destination Marketing Planning and Research -Lead the strategic direction of the Tourism Marketing in the Province through effective destination marketing planning and outcomes directed research
- Tourism Investment Facilitation – Promote, facilitate and support investment in tourism in the Province either directly or through tourism trade bodies, associations and partnerships
- Tourism Promotion and Marketing – Ensure appropriate and effective promotion and marketing of the Eastern Cape as an attractive and diverse tourist destination and experience.
- Responsible for information and research – Conduct research about tourism statistics, tourism information, market trends, visitor profiles and visitor demographics.
- ECPTA Institutional Branding and Marketing – Safe guard and protect the value of the ECPTA brand through effective brand development and promotion. Oversee social media programme for the EPCTA brand
- ECPTA Reserves Promotion, Marketing and Reservations– Manage the marketing, promotion and reservations of the ECPTA protected areas and reserves as a tourism destination. Lead, promote and manage the eco-tourism experience in the ECPTA Reserves.
- Marketing of Biodiversity events /hunting initiatives.
- Manage the Corporate Communications (Internal and External) of the ECPTA including media liaison.
- Oversee an active publicity programme of the ECPTA.
