NOMINATIONS FOR PERSONS TO SERVE ON GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES IN DISTRICT HEALTH CARE FACILITIES
This notice is an invitation to communities and relevant stakeholders to nominate candidates for consideration and approval by MEC for Health to serve voluntarily on governance structures in facilities listed hereunder:-
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
South African citizens > 18 years of age and above
Sound minded strategic thinkers > Have good communication skills
Conversant with health governance issues > Good standing in the community
Willingness to travel for health related matters
Should come from a variety of recognised organs of civil society. e.g.
Youth organisations > Women’s Organisations
Faith Based Organisations > Non-Governmental Organisations
Business Organisations > Traditional Leaders
Traditional Health Practitioners > People living with Disabilities, etc.
And other social structures
MINIMUM COMPETENCIES
Ability to liaise on health issues across the local community
Patriotic interest and willingness to support improvement of health services for benefit of community health and wellbeing
Understanding and ability to explain health systems, principles and practises to communities objectively.
Interest to support provisioning of added value to healthcare service delivery towards ensuring high quality patient experience of care.
Positive motive, attitude and ability to identify and redress gaps in healthcare needs of local communities and advocate for improvement thereof with management
Ethical behaviour, listening and communicative competency with intercultural and diversity understanding
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Liaison, Support and Oversight role to:
Provide an oversight on governance and strategic implementation of prescribed policies and health care services
Attend quarterly and adhoc governance structure meetings, trainings and ensure effective community participation and information sharing to and from communities.
Support management towards improving quality of health services to be effective, efficient and complying with the purpose of health facility existence
Foresee and proactively report abuse, unacceptable behaviour or illegal and unconstitutional conduct in health facilities for prevention and redress purposes
Advisory role:
The member must align himself/herself to the mission, values and principles of health sector.
Advise health facility management on health service gaps and needs of communities.
Assist in addressing challenges affecting dignity of health services consumers
Advocacy role to:
To protect constitutional rights of communities by promoting acceptable and equitable healthcare services.
To ensure that health institutions, systems and rules provide value add.
Act in best interest of health facility and the surrounding communities it serves
Provide purposeful advisory leadership to Health Facility Management on risk and improvement factors of service delivery
Support and Reporting role:
To develop a fundraising strategy and plan, that will enable the Structure to leverage additional financial resources beyond the annual government allocation, for supporting the health facility in all inadequacies requiring financial resources
Ensure that there are quarterly reports and accountability to the Member of Executive for Health.
N.B. Nominations / Applications must be done by recognised community organisations on a “Governance Structure Nomination Form” obtainable from each health facility, which must be stamped by the nominating community organisation, and submitted with a concise CV, certified copy of ID and an official Nomination Letter written of the Letter Head of the nominating community organization should be forwarded to:
