Minimum Requirements:
Lecturer
  • A Master’s Degree in Chiropractic.
  • At least 3-year lecturing experience at a higher educational institution.
  • Evidence of research.
  • Registration with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) in Chiropractic.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are registered for a PhD
 
Addition Recommendations:
  • Experience in e-learning.
  • Competence in the field of chiropractic clinical practice.
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in private practice.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, PowerPoint and internet usage.
  • Proficiency in research or tertiary education instruction will be an advantage.
  • Teaching experience and/or educational qualifications, preferably in the field of Chiropractic or medical education.
 
Summary of Duties:
  • Teaching and assessment of modules/subjects in the department of chiropractic.
  • Undertake research activities.
  • Supervision of research students.
  • Supervision of students in the chiropractic day clinic and/or hospitals.
  • Preparation and involvement of teaching materials.
  • Involvement in curriculum development.
  • Provide academic support to facilitate student success.
  • Responsibility for the following portfolio: Research Portfolio
  • Involvement in Community engagement initiatives organized by the department/faculty.
  • Administrative and auxiliary duties in line with the above functions.
  • Represent the department as necessary on institutional committees and professional forums.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
  • The successful candidate, if appointed as a Lecturer, will be required to complete a Doctoral degree within 5 years of appointment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
PROFESSOR
  • A sustained and demonstrable history of personal commitment to peace principles and involvement in peace practice.
  • A PhD/D:Tech in an area such as Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • A minimum of 10 years of consistent, extensive and excellent performance in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including successful postgraduate supervision or equivalent) in Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • Achievement of national and/or international recognition through research outputs within the last 10 years, but with emphasis on recent research outputs.
  • Professional recognition through scholarship, creative activity, demonstration of professional development and initiation of high-level training courses and advanced seminars.
  • Significant contribution to community engagement.
  • A critical understanding of theory underlying transformative pedagogies, and the ability to develop relevant curricula and to teach consistently with such approaches.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with the ability to use one or more local African languages in an educational context.
 
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
  • A sustained and demonstrable history of personal commitment to peace principles and involvement in peace practice.
  • A PhD/D:Tech in an area such as Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • A minimum of seven years of consistent, extensive and excellent performance in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including successful postgraduate supervision or equivalent) in Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • Achievement of national and/or international recognition through research outputs within the last seven years, but with emphasis on recent research outputs.
  •  Professional recognition through scholarship, creative activity, demonstration of professional development and initiation of high-level training courses and advanced seminars.
  • Significant contribution to community engagement.
  • A critical understanding of theory underlying transformative pedagogies, and the ability to develop relevant curricula and to teach consistently with such approaches.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with the ability to use one or more local African languages in an educational context.
 
SENIOR LECTURER
  • A sustained and demonstrable history of personal commitment to peace principles and involvement in peace practice/
  • A PhD/D: Tech in an area such as Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • Five years of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including postgraduate supervision or equivalent, in Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • A record of publications in refereed academic journals or eqvivalent.
  • Professional recognition through scholarship, creative activity, demonstration of professional development and initiation of high-level training courses and advanced seminars.
  • Significant contribution to community engagement. 
  • A critical understanding of theory underlying transformative pedagogies, and the ability to develop relevant curricula and to teach consistently with such approaches.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with the ability to use one or more local African languages in an educational context.
 
SUMMARY OF GENERIC ACADEMIC DUTIES:
  • Take responsibility for the teaching, learning and assessing of modules offered, at all levels and associated with the programme in the Centre.
  • Teaching of modules in General Education, in collaboration with staff from other parts of the University.
  • These modules all require skills in facilitation, the use of participatory methods and the ability to design teaching, to produce relevant materials and to assess. In addition, teaching on the proposed Postgraduate Diploma in Peacebuilding.
  • Make major contributions to the academic quality by providing leadership of all aspects of offerings associated with Education, Peace Studies or related areas in the Centre.
  • Lead, develop, design and review all learning content associated with Education, Peace Studies or related areas.
  • Supervise and co-supervise postgraduate students at both masters and doctoral level..
  • Publish reputable journals.
  • All staff undertake research work in collaboration with, or reporting to, the ICON Director. Such work involves the development of research proposals, finding resources for research, gaining ethical clearance and undertaking all steps in the research process, including writing for publication.
  • Promote community engagement within the Centre
  • This includes direct involvement in the Durban Leadership Programme. It would also include, for example, organising the Peace Education Forum, events at DUT that promote a culture of peace, inclusion and human rights, speaking on behalf at ICON in our interaction with other parts of civil society, and organising conferences and seminars. Such work will often connect closely with the research activities of ICON.
  • General administrative duties assigned by the Executive Dean/Head of Department.
 
Duration
Five (5) years fixed contract as the Head of the Centre (ICON), renewable for one additional term based on performance
Permeant appointment as an academic staff member of ICON
 
Summary of duties for the Head of ICON
  • Provide strategic and academic, research and engagement leadership to the Centre.
  • Manage the Centre’s operations and financial sustainability position;
  • Manage student enrolment plans and manage student enquiries regarding the Centre’s Programmes;
  • Managing and supervising staff which includes: -
    • The allocation of workload.
    • Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
    • Appointment of part time and replacement staff.
  • Enhance staff relations and building the student centredness culture;
  • Enhancing Faculty projects e.g., Post graduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation, Graduation.
  • Represent the department in relevant forums.
 
Head of the Centre Allowance inclusive of cell phone allowance: R10 000 per month.

The Budget Officer supports Deputy Dean and Finance team in the implementation of policies, procedures and systems by assuming responsibility for processing of general ledger allocations of purchase requisitions for DUT Academic Staff in order to ensure excellent customer service and alignment with the objectives of Finance and the DUT Business School.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
QUALIFICATION
  • M+3 tertiary qualification (Financial Accounting or a Finance related qualification)
 
EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years’ experience in Financial Accounting experience in a large organisation with 2 years’ experience in budgeting.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Implement specific research related tasks relating to the DUT/section as directed by the Deputy Dean of the Business School specifically regarding the following:
  • Responsible for processing and general ledger allocations of purchase requisitions.
  • Ensure financial rules and procedures are adhered to.
  • Process requisitions received according to procedures outlined e.g. checks requisitions. (Procurement) when additional information is required.
  • Ensures copies of requisitions are made; ensures correct processing of requisitions in foreign currency.
  • Processing of Examiners/Moderators/Examiners/Lecturer and student claims.
  • Management Reports specifically regarding DUT: Business School
  • Expenditure allocation and related functions.
  • Deal with queries on reports e.g. balances, amount expedited; responds to requests for printouts.
  • Follows up on all queries.
  • Ensure satisfaction of core customers in the DUT/section.
  • By undertaking tasks in manner directed by the Deputy Dean including: Ensures adherence to Financial rules and procedures providing assistance/ explanations of procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure accuracy of all data recorded.
  • Ensure timeous response to queries from departments and provides information as required e.g. assistance and guidelines regarding general ledger allocations and purchase requisitions.
  • Manage difficult customers.
  • Maintain sound relationships with colleagues and contributes to team effort.
  • Ensure personal and professional self-development e.g. is available to respond to development opportunities when resources permit.
  • Submit Budget reports within required timeframe.
  • Co-ordinate the signing of invoices, GRV’s and their return to Finance during year end.
