Minimum Requirements:
Associate Professor:
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Civil engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Civil engineering.
• At least 7 years of academic and/or professional experience in urban or transportation engineering design.
• Evidence of sustained peer-review publications, with at least 7 DHET-accredited research outputs in the past 3 years.
• Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision, with at least 1 Doctoral and 2 Masters students to completion.
Senior Lecturer:
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Civil Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Civil Engineering.
• At least 5 years of academic and/or professional experience in urban or transportation engineering design.
• Evidence of research and postgraduate supervision, with at least 3 DHET accredited publications in the past 3 years.
Additional Recommendations:
• Good communication and lecturing skills.
• A strong passion for teaching and research.
• Knowledge of engineering application software.
• Good research track record or relevant research experience and an ability and desire to advance research development in the department.
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Summary of Duties:
• Teaching, assessing, and supervision at all levels.
• Development of learning material for civil engineering courses.
• The successful candidate is expected to supervise or be actively involved in research in the department
teaching, assessing and supervision at all relevant levels.
• Responsible for modules per year in accordance with a fair workload distribution.
• Development of learning materials for different courses.
• Actively involved in research and/or post-graduate supervision in the department.
• Assist with administrative and other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department or representative as delegated.
• Contribute or lead curriculum design.
• Assist the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.

Job Description
The Senior Director oversees several key areas to enhance collaborations with industry and the society (quad helix partners), promote the university's initiatives to the public, manage professional development and continuing education, handle corporate communication and marketing, manage partnerships and international collaborations (global partnerships), and engage with alumni and institutional advancement activities. It focuses on enhancing the university's relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, industries, government, and alumni. The Senior Director of Engagement and Partnerships will lead the design and execution of industry and engagement, partnerships and international collaboration, professional development, corporate communication, short course unit, and alumni relations initiatives that will ensure that DUT remains a key contributor to society.
Minimum Requirements
A Doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Applied Sciences, etc).
Preferably ten (10) years’ experience in a leadership role related to engagement, or external affairs, preferably within a higher education institution or a similar environment.
Preferably someone with academic management experience or has grown in the academic ranks
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive engagement strategy aligned with DUT's strategic objectives
- Formulate and enforce policies related to engagement activities, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
- Represent DUT at high-level meetings, conferences, and forums to promote the university’s engagement agenda.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government bodies, industry partners, community leaders, and international organizations.
- Develop and manage partnerships with industry stakeholders to support research, innovation, and employment opportunities for students.
- Strengthen relationships with alumni, enhancing their involvement in university activities and leveraging their networks for mutual benefit.
- Identifying and establishing international and local partnerships.
- Managing international exchange programs and collaborations.
- Coordinating international conferences and events.
- Developing and implementing corporate communication strategies.
- Managing media relations and public relations.
- Overseeing branding and marketing campaigns.
- Building and maintaining industry partnerships.
- Facilitating industry collaboration projects.
- Developing and implementing community outreach programs.
- Developing and managing short courses and continuing education programs.
- Offering certifications and professional development workshops.
- Collaborating with industry partners to identify skill gaps and develop relevant courses.
- Lead and manage the Engagement Office, providing direction, support, and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Oversee the budgeting and financial management of engagement programs, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and reporting requirements, providing regular updates to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement and other senior leaders.
