Job Description
Minimum Requirements:
Lecturer
- A completed Master’s degree or PhD in Interior Design or an appropriate associated field. Preference would be given to candidates with a PhD.
- A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level OR 3 years’ experience in a relevant associated professional field.
- Be willing to register for doctoral study within two years of appointment.
- Evidence of research or creative output activities.
- Teaching experience at a university of technology or equivalent institution.
- Experience in teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning.
- Experience in teaching English second-language students.
- Possess a working knowledge of Interior Design relevant software, such as Autodesk and Adobe Creative Cloud or be willing to attend training and obtain certification on appointment.
- Possess professional industry experience in interior design that is reflected in a design portfolio.
Summary of Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach in the Interior Design Programme.
- Set and mark tests, assignments and portfolios.
- Develop learning materials.
- Engage in administration duties.
- Assist with curriculum development.
- Develop materials specific for online learners.
- Participate in individual and/or programme research projects.
- Attend meetings prescribed by the Head of Department.
- Undertake appropriate duties as assigned by the Programme Coordinator/Head of Department.

Senior Lecturer: (Ref. No. 327)
- PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Civil Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Civil Engineering.
- At least 5 years of academic and/or professional experience in Structural or Water Engineering.
- Evidence of research and postgraduate supervision, with at least 3 DHET accredited publications in the past 5 years.
Lecturer (Ref. No.329)
- Masters or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification in Civil Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Civil Engineering.
- At least 3 years of academic and/or professional experience in Structural or Water Engineering.
- Evidence of research and postgraduate supervision will be added advantage.
Additional Recommendations:
- Good communication and lecturing skills
- A strong passion for teaching and research
- Knowledge of Engineering application software
- Good research track record or relevant research experience and an ability and desire to advance research development in the Department.
- Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa

- Development of learning material for Civil Engineering courses
- The successful candidate is expected to supervise or be actively involved in research in the Department.
- Teaching, assessing, and supervising at all relevant levels.
- Responsible for modules per year following fair workload distribution.
- Development of learning materials for different courses.
- Actively involved in research and/or post-graduate supervision in the department.
- Assist with administrative and other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department or representative as delegated.
- Contribute/lead curriculum design.
- Assist with the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
- Assist with lecturing BEng Tech Honours modules after hours.
