Job Description
Senior Lecturer
The Department of Information Technology hosts the Luban Workshop in collaboration with Taijin Vocational Institute (TVI) of China.  These are specialist labs for 3D printing and NB IOT, giving students and researchers access to new technology, providing space for innovation and entrepreneurship.  This unique environment, as well as many other initiatives, in collaboration projects across continents provides an exciting employment opportunity.
 
Minimum requirements:
  • A completed Doctorate Degree, and an undergraduate study in the field of Information Technology, Information Systems,  Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • At least 5 years lecturing experience in Higher education teaching at undergraduate and/or post graduate level.*
  • Active participation in professional, industry and or community activities.
  • Candidates must demonstrate scholarship of teaching and must have produced/ published at least three research outputs in the preceding three years (e.g. accredited book, chapter in a book, accredited creative output, patent, review article, journal article, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.).*
  • Successful supervision of at least one postgraduate student at Master’s level.
 
NOTE:
Applicants with Doctoral qualifications who do not meet requirements marked by * may be considered for a Lecturer position but must meet the experience requirement of having 3 years of teaching experience at tertiary level.
 
Summary of Duties:
  • Required to lecture in Information Technology discipline (any of the following): Programming and programming languages, Data Structures, Operating systems, Networks, Cybersecurity, Human Computer Interaction, Ethics, Software Engineering, Image Processing, Research Methodology.
  • Supervise postgraduate students
  • Publication and ongoing research
  • Participate in research development
  • Participate in curriculum development
  • Engage in community/External Engagement Services including playing an active role in the functioning of Professional and subject related associations.
  • Develop and write study material.
  • Undertake administration and other academic duties assigned by the Head of Department

Job Description
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR  (Ref. No. E504)

Minimum Requirements
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering.
• At least 7 years of teaching/professional experience.
• Evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications, with at least 7 DHET-accredited research outputs in the past 3 years.
• Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision, with at least 1 Doctoral and 2 Masters students supervised to completion.
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design.
• Evidence of sustained external funding.


SENIOR LECTURER (E509)

Minimum Requirements
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering.
• At least 5 years of teaching/professional experience.

LECTURER (345)

Minimum Requirements
• Masters or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering.
• At least 3 years of teaching/professional experience.
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design.

Summary of Duties
• Teaching, assessing, and supervising at all relevant levels.
• Responsible for at least two modules per year by fair workload distribution.
• Development of learning materials for different courses.
• Supervise BEng Tech design projects and be actively involved in research and post-graduate supervision in the department.
• Assist with administrative and other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department or representative as delegated.
• To serve as chair of a specialty area on a rotational basis.
• To contribute/lead curriculum design.
• To assist the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning.
• To be able to lecture at least one BEng Tech Honours level module a semester part-time after hours once a week.
