Job Description
Minimum Requirement
• A Master's relevant field (Education, Curriculum Development, or a Multidisciplinary area, other). (PhD degree preferred)
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic curriculum development or related roles, in a higher education institution.
• Knowledge of multidisciplinary approaches, current educational theory, and best practices in curriculum design
• Proven ability to initiate and implement innovative academic programmes and engage stakeholders from multiple disciplines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to think creatively, critically analyze complex information, and propose effective solutions.

Additional
• Experience in submitting qualifications to the CHE via the HEQC online system.

Summary of Duties
• Develop, design, and implement new multidisciplinary qualifications and short learning programmes in coordination with faculty, researchers, industry experts, and other stakeholders.
• Conduct thorough research and disseminate results on current and emerging academic trends, industry demands, and students' career aspirations to determine the scope and relevance of new programmes.
• Collaborate with various departments and faculties to establish curriculum objectives, course structure, and learning outcomes for the proposed programmes.
• Create and/or review detailed course outlines and syllabi, ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives and industry needs.
• Work closely with subject matter experts to develop engaging and interactive learning materials, including lectures, presentations, assignments, and assessments.
• Evaluate and update existing curricula to enhance their relevance and academic rigor.
• Implement quality assurance measures to ensure curriculum alignment with national standards, accrediting bodies, and institutional guidelines.
• Foster partnerships with industry, government agencies, and the community to incorporate practical experiences, internships, and real-world projects into the curriculum.
• Provide professional development workshops and training to faculty members on curriculum design and assurance and effective teaching techniques, pedagogical approaches, and assessment strategies.
• Any other academic development duties requested by the Director of CELT

Summary of Duties
• Co-ordinate the development and implementation of access and placement testing strategies aligned with university goals and objectives.
• Coordinate with academic departments to determine testing requirements and ensure alignment with program outcomes.
• Oversee the administration of standardized tests, including scheduling, logistics, and grading.
• Analyze testing data to evaluate student performance, identify trends, and make recommendations for program and learning, teaching and assessment improvement.
• Collaborate with student development teams to develop student support initiatives
• Develop and deliver training sessions for staff involved in test development, analysis of performance and reporting
• Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations and agencies involved in testing and assessment.
• Monitor industry trends and best practices in access and placement testing to inform program development and innovation.
• Prepare regular reports and presentations on testing program outcomes, progress, and challenges for university leadership.
• Manage budgetary resources allocated to access and placement testing initiatives.

Summary of Duties
• Support the implementation of a comprehensive project plan that outlines tasks, timelines, and resources needed for the online tutorship program.
• Engage with Software designers to ensure responsive online tutorial design apps
• Facilitate tutor training in respect of tutorial practices and use of online apps
• Coordinate the recruitment process for tutors, including advertising, screening, and interviewing candidates. Organize training sessions to ensure tutors are equipped with necessary skills and knowledge.
• Oversee the setup and configuration of the online platform used for tutoring sessions, ensuring it meets the projects requirements for functionality and access.
• Act as the main point of contact for tutors, students, and academic staff, providing regular updates, answering inquiries, and addressing concerns throughout the project.
• Implement systems to track the progress of the tutorship program, collecting feedback from students, tutors and academic staff to identify areas for improvement.
• Promote quality assurance processes to maintain the effectiveness and consistency of tutoring sessions, including conducting periodic evaluations of tutor performance.
• Monitor the budget allocated for the tutorship project, tracking expenses and ensuring spending remains within approved limits.
• Maintain detailed records of project activities, including meeting minutes, progress reports, and financial documents. Prepare monthly reports for project leader, summarizing key accomplishments, challenges, and next steps.

Salary: R20 000 to R25 000 p.m.

Minimum Requirements:

Senior Lecturer
  • A completed doctorate in Performing Arts or an appropriate associated field
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience at tertiary level or 5 years’ experience in a relevant professional field.
  • Candidates must demonstrate scholarship of teaching and must have published three papers (accredited
    book, chapter in a book, review article, journal article, or peer-reviewed conference proceedings) in the
    preceding three years / creative outputs. 
  • Successful supervision of at least one postgraduate student at master’s degree level. 
 
Lecturer
  • A completed Masters’ degree in Performing Arts or an appropriate associated field.
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience or 3 years’ experience in a relevant professional field.
 
Additional Requirements
  • Applicants must be computer literate, possess demonstrable skills as a lighting and sound designer and be equipped to lecture both theory and practical in the field of Performing Arts within the Department.
  • Industry experience in Designing Lighting or Sound for professional performances, is a prerequisite with a portfolio of evidence, as the candidate will be expected to mentor future lighting and sound designers. The candidate must be able to work long hours, late nights, and some weekends, as required for Production work.
 
 Further Requirements:
  • Expertise in the following areas:
  • A working knowledge of Theatre History, Arts Administration/Production Management, Lighting and Sound
  • A background in at least 3 academic years of general Performing Arts coursework or/and Experience in the tertiary Performing Arts field
  • Some experience in working in a festival environment will be an advantage.
 
Summary of Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach and examine course work for the Higher Certificate in Performing Arts Technology, Diploma in Drama, and Advanced Diploma in Drama, as assigned by the HOD.
  • Complete all administrative duties related to the teaching of the courses and mentorship of the programme, as well as specific administrative duties as allocated by the HOD.
  • Must be prepared to work after hours and some weekends, in preparation for productions – all staff are expected to undertake supervision of students working in the theatre in addition to their teaching
  • Attend all Departmental functions, productions, staff meetings, etc.
  • Be prepared to engage or conduct research activities
  • Participate in research development and curriculum development activities
  • The incumbent will also need to work closely with both staff and students during production work, and must be able to supervise students during rehearsals.
  • Take initiative, communicate and collaborate creatively with Drama staff as well as work collegially in support of academic and administrative goals.

POSITION – HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENT – VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN
 
Minimum requirements
•A PhD in the relevant discipline. Relevance in this context will depend on the cluster of academic programmes located in the department, namely Graphic Design, Photography and Interior Design
• Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer
• Five (5) years’ experience in higher education or academic leadership
• A record of scholarship

Duration
Five (5) year fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance

Summary of duties
• Provide leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning and Research & Engagement
• Engage with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme
• Represent the department in relevant fora
• Manage and supervise staff including
- The allocation of workload
- Approval of leave
- Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student-centred department
- Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development
- Appointment of part time and replacement staff
- Programme and project budgeting
- Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Postgraduate recruitment and supervision, student support programmes, orientation, graduation rate etc. in line with institutional targets and mandates


The successful candidate will receive a Non-pensionable Allowance inclusive of cell phone allowance of R10,000 per month for the headship in addition to the salary offered at the level of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor that the successful candidate will be appointed against, whichever is applicable.
