LECTURER (JL28) The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is located on the warm east coast of South Africa. The internationally rankled university sprawls over seven (7) campuses in tropical and picturesque Durban and in Pietermaritzburg, with its undulating hills that flow over from the majestic Drakensberg Mountain.

• At least 5 years teaching and professional experience in a design environment. 
• Must be registered with ECSA. 
• Evidence of research and post graduate supervision.

• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer, or Mechatronic Engineering. 
• At least 10 years of teaching/professional experience, 
• Evidence of a sustained scholarly track record in the form of international peer-reviewed publications, with at least 10 DHET-accredited research outputs in the past 3 years. 
• Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision at Masters and Doctorate level, with at least 3 Doctoral and 5 Masters students supervised to completion. 
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design. 
• Evidence of sustained external funding.

• At least 7 years of teaching/professional experience.

• Evidence of sustained successful postgraduate supervision, with at least I Doctoral and 2 Masters students supervised to completion. 
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design.

Minimum Requirements 
• PhD or equivalent NQF level 10 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering. 
• At least 5 years of teaching/professional experience. 
• Evidence of research and postgraduate supervision, with at least 3 DHET accredited publications in the past 3 years. 
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design. 
• Evidence of some external funding.

Minimum Requirements 
• MEng or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification in Engineering, with an undergraduate qualification in Electronic, Computer or Mechatronic Engineering.
• At least 3 years of teaching/professional/industrial experience. 
• Evidence of emerging research and publication record. 
• Experience in general electronic and/or computer engineering including control and/or mechatronic systems, embedded systems, and engineering design. 
• Required to currently be pursuing or immediately pursue a doctoral qualification in engineering.

• Good research track record or relevant research experience and an ability and desire to advance research development in the department.

Summary of Duties 
• Teaching, assessing and supervision at all relevant levels. 
• Responsible for at least two modules per year in accordance with fair workload distribution. 
• Development of learning materials for different courses. 
• Supervise BEng Tech design projects and be actively involved in research and/or post-graduate supervision in the department. 
• Assist with administrative and other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department or representative as delegated. 
• To serve as chair of a specialty area on a rotational basis. 
• To contribute/lead curriculum design. 
• To assist the department in the delivery of quality teaching and learning. 
• To able to lecture at least one BEng Tech Honours level module a semester part-time after hours once a week.

Post - Specialist: Property Management (Ref: R248) 
 
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Postgraduate Degree in Civil Engineering/Building/Built Environment/legal/Real Estate Management 
  • 5 years’ experience facilities/property management environment 
  • 3 years’ experience in contract management role 
  • Proven work experience as Property Manager 
 
Key Competencies: 
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills needed to meet with prospective and current tenants. 
  • Good verbal communication 
  • Attention to detail to ensure applications are accurate and tenant issues or questions are adequately addressed. 
  • Organization and the ability to multitask efficiently. 
  • Problem-solving to find effective solutions for a variety of potential issues.

Training & Knowledge: 
• Knowledge of basic accounting, rental contracts and property laws

  • Manage all aspects of assigned properties. 
  • Design business plans for assigned properties that suit customers’ needs.

  • Negotiate lease/contracts with contractors in a timely and reliable manner. 
  • Regular communications with Leasing Agents about current vacancies or prospective tenants. 
  • Advertise and market vacant spaces to attract tenants. 
  • Collect receivable accounts and handle operating expenses. 
  • Develop and manage annual budgets by forecasting requirements and analyzing variances, data and trends. 
  • Oversee properties’ personnel and assess its performance. 
  • Accomplish financial goals and report periodically on financial performance. 
  • Source and build relationships with prospective clients to expand business opportunities. 
  • Take calls from current tenants and answer questions about maintenance repairs or payment options. 
  • Visit rental properties and perform inspections of the interior or exterior of the building. 
  • Use downtime in their office to schedule maintenance repairs and research potential changes to housing laws and regulations. 
  • Property Managers may receive calls after business hours if one of their rental properties experiences a water leak or another serious problem.

FACULTY OF ACCOUNTING & INFORMATICS
 
POSITION - HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENT – MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING 
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • A PhD in Management Accounting, Accountancy, or Relevant discipline.
  • Relevance in this context will depend on the cluster of academic programmes located in the department
  • Associate Professor, Professor or Senior Lecturer
  • Five (5) years’ experience in higher education or academic leadership
  • A record of Scholarship
  • Registration with a Professional Accountancy Body would be an advantage.
 
Duration
  • Five (5) years fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance
 
Summary of duties 
  • Provide leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning, Research and Engagement.
  • Dealing with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme. 
  • Represent the department in relevant fora.
  • Managing and supervising staff which includes: - 
    • The allocation of workload. 
    • Approval of leave. 
    • Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student-centred department. 
    • Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development. 
    • Appointment of part time and replacement staff.       
    • Programme and project budgeting.
    • Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Post graduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation, Graduation. 
 
 
The successful candidate will receive a Non-Pensionable Allowance inclusive of cell phone allowance of R10 000 per month for the headship position in addition to the salary offered at the level of a Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor that the successful candidate will be appointed against, whichever is applicable.
