Durban ICC SOC (Ltd) is the managing company for the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC Complex, which includes the International Convention Centre Durban (ICC), the ICC Exhibition Centre and the ICC Arena. The Durban ICC is one of the most advanced conference facilities in the world, having been voted Africa’s Leading Conference Centre by World Travel Awards for 18 years. 
 


BUYER (TG 9) 
MIN R256 203.86– MAX R459 885.11 PER ANNUM 
(INTERNAL & EXTERNAL) 
The organisation is calling for suitable candidates to apply for the position of Buyer. The incumbent will be required to co-ordinate processes that are associated with the procuring of goods and services to ensure that the Durban ICC’s operational needs are met, taking into account price, quantity, delivery and continuity of supply. 
The incumbent will report to the Supply Chain Manager 
 
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES 
Minimum Qualifications 
 Certificate in Purchasing Management or relevant NQF level 5 qualification 
 A Diploma in Purchasing Management would be advantageous 
 A minimum of 2 years’ experience in purchasing field 
 Purchasing experience in the Hospitality/Events Industry would be advantageous.

KEY PERFORMANCE / MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THIS ROLE 
 Coordinate the application of procedures in respect of procurement and/or purchasing of food or non-food items/products; 
 Liaise with personnel across various department in respect of Departmental requirements and priorities; 
 Receive requisitions from departments and action accordingly; 
 Facilitate the processing of purchase orders in line with the approved SCM Policy 
 Negotiate pricing with suppliers to ensure cost containment is maintained; 
 Review proposals from vendors/suppliers with regards to products, prices, quality and service delivery standards; 
 Analyse inventory schedules to determine critical needs of the ICC; 
 Continuously liaise with suppliers in order to resolve aspects pertaining to product quality, discounts and delivery lead time; 
 Receive samples of alternative /substitute products and forward to departments for approval; 
 Conduct site visits of businesses that have been shortlisted as Durban ICC’s potential supplier/s to assess capability of meeting Durban ICC’s requirement; 
 Conduct quality checks of products and administrative systems; 
 Analyse inventory schedules to determine critical needs; 
 Forward reports to the Manager: SCM and Compliance for approval; 
 Ensure that Suppliers conform to the Durban ICC’s terms and conditions, quality standards and statutory requirements as stipulated in the Procurement policy.
