ICT TECHNICIAN: SYSTEM SECURITY

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT 

Recognised Diploma or Degree in Information Technology (IT) or Computer Systems Engineering. Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in IT desktop support and network maintenance. A valid driver’s license, own vehicle and relevant public-sector experience will be an added advantage. 

 

CRITICAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES NEEDED 

General Knowledge of Information Security regulatory requirements and standards such as IS0 270001/2; SANS top 20 and NIST 800-35; Knowledge of IT Processes and Controls and strong understanding of risk and control frameworks such as (CoBIT, ISO, NIST, ITIL, PCI) ; Communication; Computer Literacy; Problem Solving and decision making skills; Interpersonal Skills; Numerical Skills; Self-Management; Client Orientation and Customer Service 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS inter alia, include: 

Second Line support: Receive and log requests for support from users; Prioritise requests in accordance with agreed criteria and the needs of the organization; Investigate problems and other requests for support and determine appropriate actions to take; Note problems and identify performance trends; Take corrective action to improve system performance and to avoid problems arising; Accept new releases of applications software from software suppliers. 

·       Desktop Support: Update and maintain (monthly) all documentation relating to the desktop environment; Install and troubleshoot desktop operating systems; Setup and Configure PCs’, Printers Incl. Multifunctional devices, laptops and Scanners; Setting up new users in Active Directory, creating email accounts; Setup dial-up connections; Manage the PC, software and equipment in the Boardrooms and meeting rooms; Support MS Office suites and applications; Ensure all software installed are legal and licenced; Username and Password resets; Profile modification and repair; Setup and configuration of network support – check and trouble shoot connectivity; Setup phones for new users; Manage the scanners and ensure they are operational; Email trouble shooting; Virus activity – updated, checking for and removal of viruses; Printer and maintenance; Arrange for hardware repairs (PC, Screen); Setting up new users in Active Directory, creating email accounts; Ordering of new hardware, consumables and equipment. Including getting quotes; Ensure maximum uptime of servers and other ICT equipment; Check functionality of router, hubs switches and cables; Coordinate maintenance with workloads, monitoring computer equipment in use in exhibitions; Maintain records of equipment movement; Monitor and remove unregistered software. 

·       System Security Support: Regular updating of virus and other protection programs; Ensure that backups are performed successfully and replicated offsite; Ensure data protection and cyber-security to safeguard information assets of the DMSA; Perform vulnerability assessment to identify and patch security gaps; Assist IT Manager and staff with the system audits and facilitate management response and remediation efforts. Ensure overall IT compliance with regulatory requirements through proactive planning and communication, ownership and relationships; Control of system logs related to Information security; Takes care of user’s rights (privileges), procedures on assigning the privileges and as well as whether these are assigned or revoked timely and correctly; Conducts and follows up penetration tests and vulnerability tests, and monitors whether the indicated defaults/errors are eliminated; Ensure that all network forms are completed when users are added or changed in the systems; Ensure email security and filtering administration; Establish and oversee network security measures to safeguard against data breaches, cyberattacks, and unauthorised access; Educate employees on security procedures, best practices, and network usage; Identify, analyse and propose solution to the problem; Report on the progress made regarding the solution; Test the solution; Implement the solution; Verify the solution after implementation; Monitor progress of requests for support and ensure users and other interested parties are kept informed; Liaise with systems development function or software suppliers on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfil user requirements; Provide advice and guidance to less experienced colleagues as required; Evaluate and recommend new information security technologies and counter-measures against threats to information or privacy; Provide financial systems support and monitoring; Provide weekly security report on financial system, Heritage asset system, firewall, antivirus, patch management and backups. Consistently monitor and troubleshoot network security; Support cloud-based systems (Office 365, Azure, Business core systems and VOIP). 

 

·       System Testing: Ensure that disaster recovery tests are conducted on a quarterly basis; Compile and Coordinate a detailed test plan; Coordinate and prepare system and acceptance tests; Conduct and/or coordinate system and acceptance testing; Evaluate & document test results; Co-ordinate and conduct re-testing if applicable; Ensure that all relevant documentation is updated.

·       Public Outreach Programme: Identify and facilitate outreach programmes through liaison with educators, arts professionals, artists, museum practitioners and the community; Manage the delivery of education programmes and museum tours to visiting schools, groups and the public; Promote the Public Programmes at various DMSA museums; Prepare correspondence, reports, presentations and promotional materials.
