DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS

CALL FOR ENTRIES: THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS AUDIO VISUAL CONTENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME

BACKGROUND
The Department of Communications (DoC) has initiated the audio-visual/broadcasting industry programme, which is earmarked to support Film and Television Production graduates. The programme focuses on emerging young Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises owners in the audio-visual content industry, targeting those residing in rural areas. Although the target group is youth, women and people with disabilities, the DoC will also give preference to youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The aim of the initiative is to identify opportunities for content producers in the areas of funding, markets and exit opportunities.

The DoC has observed that the nature of content that has been broadcasted in traditional media platforms such as television has predominantly depicted urban and peri-urban settings. The department also acknowledges that content depicting and reflecting the life of people in rural areas in their own languages has been constantly neglected. It is for this reason that there is a dire need to reflect content that is representative of the culture, heritage and art of rural communities. However, the programme will not only focus on the abovementioned content, but also on other sectors such as tourism and education.

The DoC hereby invites unemployed graduates (in Limpopo Province) who are trained/emerging content creators to be part of a 6 days entrepreneurship programme. The opportunity will provide these young people with entrepreneurship skills that will enable them to access opportunities in the audio-visual/broadcasting industry. The 6 days training on entrepreneurship will be followed by 3 days training on Fourth Industrial (4IR) that aims to capacitate content producers for the content production in the 4IR environment.
