COUNCIL ON HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE)
 
The South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) is an independent statutory body established by the Higher Education Act (Act No. 101 of 1997, as amended). As the Quality Council for Higher Education in terms of the National Qualifications Framework Act (Act No 67 of 2008, as amended) it advises the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation on all higher education matters and is responsible for quality assurance and promotion through the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC). 
 
Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the following position: 
 
INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) SPECIALIST
CORPORATE SERVICES 
(12 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
EMPLOYMENT PACKAGE: R549 942 – R647 811 PA 
 
The Corporate Services Directorate is responsible for the efficient and effective provision of corporate services – administrative, financial, and technical and professional, to support the discharge of the core mandate of the CHE. 
 
 
Reporting to the Director: Corporate Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 
• Work closely with the ICT Administrator in supporting and maintenance of the network; 
• Management of the information security governance deliverables lifecycle; 
• Identify gaps and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement in the operating effectiveness of information security; 
• Facilitate information security risk analysis, reviews and audits; 
• Assist in the remediation of findings and management of ITC risks; 
• Maintain existing software and hardware and upgrading any that have become obsolete; 
• Perform security monitoring and periodic testing and reporting for identified security weaknesses or incidents; 
• Maintain and monitor a logging function that enables the early detection of unusual or abnormal activities that may need to be addressed; 
• Monitor computer networks and systems to identify how performance can be improved; 
• Provision of ICT Security management. 

 
The successful candidate should have: 
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent; 
5 to 6 years’ experience in ICT infrastructure and ICT Security; 
Exposure to Information System Security Technical Standards; 
Knowledge of computer programming, coding and troubleshooting methodologies.

The candidate must demonstrate the following competencies: 
Integrity, customer oriented; analytical ability; deadline driven; ability to work under pressure; interpersonal skills, problem solving, initiative, IT and technical skill, enthusiasm and attention to detail. 
 
Skills:
Web- HTML, PHP, Drupal and Linux; 
Operating System – Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10; 
Knowledge of Veeam and Backup Exec; 
Knowledge of network switches, network cabling and wireless devices; 
Working knowledge of Active Directory; 
VEEM, Back- Up Exec, Windows Server, My SQL, VMware, SonicWALL Firewall.
