EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

Overall Job Purpose: Ensure efficient management and coordination as well as provide Administrative support to the office of the Executive Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Executive Office Support
- Manage access to the Executive Manager’s office through the setup of appointments and management of the Executive Manager’s diary.
- Make accommodation, flight, road and other travel arrangements.
- Setup and coordinate meetings with both internal and external clients of the CGS.
- Manage calls in and out of the Executive Managers’ office.
- Receive clients & visitors to the Executive Manager’s office.
- Handle all incoming & outgoing correspondence.
- Establish and maintain an efficient and effective correspondence and document management system for the Executive Manager’s office.
- Prepare type or edit correspondence & documentation as required.
- Archive Executive Manager’s office documentation as per prescribed schedule / requirements.
- Coordinate approval processes and tasks for other departments and sections.
- Process all travel and related requisitions and claims.
- Assist with the management of the Executive Manager’s office cost centre.
- Coordinate the acquisition of office supplies and materials for the office.
- Coordinate maintenance of the office infrastructure and condition.
- Monitor & control own and the Executive Manager’s office telephone accounts within prescribed levels.
- Provide secretarial support for committees and forums chaired by the Executive Manager’s.
- Organize events and functions presided over by the Executive Manager’s.
- Compile reports as may be required for the Executive and Management use.
- Any other reasonable duties and tasks assigned by the Executive Manager.
- Ensure proper procurement and financial administration within the office of the Executive Manager.
- Process S & T claims for in the Executive Manager’s office.
- Purchase office consumables and stationery for the Executive Manager’s office.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to CGS procurement processes.
- Engage, establish and build relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. i.e. Department, regional offices.
- Compile and submit own Personal Development Plan.
- Participates in relevant and application training courses, workshops etc. as needed/directed.
- Contribute to the knowledge exchange or sharing activities.
GENERAL
- Keep abreast of all relevant CGS policies and procedures.
- Keep a master library of the CGS policies and procedures up to date for use by the office.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma or Degree in Administration or equivalent qualification.
- 5 years’ experience as an Executive Assistant to a member of Executive Management and /or at an Executive level.
- Experience in and understanding of executive support environment, office administration and secretarial practices.
- Experience in an executive secretary/PA role requiring tact, judgement and discretion in handling internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and technical skills or proven expertise in diary management, email monitoring, meeting logistics, travel arrangements, records and archive management, events coordination, and customer services.
- Ability to filter information and assess priorities in order to manage own workload with
- Understanding of protocol matters with regard to government, parliament, and other-key stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels.

Overall Job Purpose :The incumbent will undertake advanced and integrated geoscience research directly linked to developing/integrating geoscience datasets that will respond to South Africa’s national development imperatives. The incumbent will play a leading role in target generation and the development of geoscience datasets that are critical in search for valuable minerals and metals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake advanced geoscience investigations focussed on South Africa’s minerals and energy development spheres.
- Undertake advanced geoscience research and development toward characterising and understanding South Africa’s geodynamic processes.
- Lead geoscience data mining, collection, interpretation, and modelling toward developing the knowledge and strength of South Africa’s developmental imperatives.
- Develop innovative and new methodologies that can be employed in South Africa’s development sectors.
- Compile and oversee the development of reports, maps and similar publications on the Council for Geoscience’s exploration programme.
- Report and present the findings of the Council for Geoscience’s exploration programme to key stakeholders.
- Make recommendations of the research at a regional, national, and inter-governmental level for both scientific and toward the benefit of South Africa’s national development sectors.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to more junior staff toward their professional development.
- Undertake critical review of Council for Geoscience products and methodologies, especially in the field of mineral exploration.
- Undertakes constant review and evaluation of the Council for Geoscience’s exploration programme.
- Contributes toward, and upholds, key quality assurance practices and methodologies in the Council for Geoscience.

- Compile standardized geological reports for management information purposes (manage all geological data properly).
- Data validation: Ensure that data received from the exploration team is checked and validated.
- Effectively manage reverse circulation and core drilling operations.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
- Initiate, participates and takes a leading role in cutting edge geoscientific research, which involves:
- Data mining and data collection.
- Data interpretation.
- Compilation/computation of maps and/or geoscientific models.

- Compilation of reports and peer-reviewed technical papers or scientific publications
- Make recommendations of the research at regional, national, inter-governmental level for scientific research or commercial purposes.
- Provide guidance and/or mentoring to junior staff in research, which involves the following:
- Provide guidance in the formulation of research proposals, methodologies, data collection and data interpretation.
- Revision and editing of reports, methodologies, models and maps on various projects.
- Lead and monitoring progress on projects.
- Evaluate projects results, edit reports of junior scientists for publication
- Participate in national or international review bodies tasked with reviewing advanced projects/programmes of national, scientific, or international significance.
- Participate and lead independent research from data gathering, development of high-quality maps and reports, level editing of maps, reports, 3D models and other publications.
- Develop, interrogates, and implements innovative conceptual models and techniques to enhance efficiency with regards to geoscientific work or programmes. Design new methods and formulates theories; using integration of existing and new data to define mineralising systems for the purposes of mineral exploration.
- Geoscience data processing, interpretation and packing toward defining research areas/requirements and the establishment and review of solutions toward mandated research objectives and training and development plans.
- Integrate and package results toward applied policy-defining suggestions.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION/ PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Lead varied projects simultaneously and guides other scientists in the implementation.
- Monitor risks and implement/make recommendations for corrective measures in line with the risk management plan to the Exploration Programme Manager.
- Identify and contribute to geoscience aspects during the compilation of tenders documents and proposals.
- Participate and/or lead commercial contract negotiations with external clients in line with the mandate from the Executive Management.
- Monitor expenditures in the project expenditure and ensures that the budget is expended in line with the evaluate progress of tasks and objectives of the projects, and report progress to Business Unit Manager.
- Lead the compilation of commercial and statutory project tender documents or contracts; geoscientific and, project financial and scheduling aspects.
- Provide advanced advice to the Executive Management, and/or public and private sector organisations related field of expertise and may advise Executive Management on scientific and technical acceptability of maps, publications, and reports.
- Provide independent moderation or peer-review of post-graduate degrees or scientific publications.
- Make presentations at a national and/or international conferences or related work forums. Editing or co-editing of a book or volume based on conference proceedings.
- Make science-based contributions to research publications as author or co-author in national and international journals.
- Produce high-quality publications in high-impact national and/or international journals as first author.
- Participate in scientific discussions at national and international conferences involving matters of scientific importance either in a specific field or variety of fields.
- At times contribute to the national standard and best practice guidelines at relevant for a (forums)

- BSc Honours Degree in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in integrated geoscience and 15 years’ experience in fundamental geology and/or economic/exploration geology or,
- MSc in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in integrated geoscience and 10 years’ experience in fundamental geology and/or economic/exploration geology or,
- PhD Degree in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in integrated geoscience and 5 years’ experience in fundamental Geology and/or Economic/Exploration geology;
- Experience in integrated geosciences, geodynamic modelling, mineral resource estimation and knowledge on various mineral resource reporting standards;
- Experience in 3D geological, tectonic and mineral predictive modelling;
- Relevant publication record
- Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat) registration with SACNASP

SPECIALIST SCIENTIST (SENIOR MINERAL RESOURCE GEOLOGIST)

Overall Job Purpose : The incumbent will undertake specialised, advanced and integrated Geoscience research directly linked to developing/integrating geoscience datasets that are focused on modelling, estimation, and reporting Mineral Resources for multiple commodities. The incumbent will produce 2-D or 3-D models of geology, structure, ore body and geometallurgy (if available), or other properties important for prefeasibility studies. Furthermore, the incumbent will play a leading and specialised role in the development of such geoscience datasets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertakes specialised geoscience investigations focussed on South Africa’s minerals and energy development spheres.
- Undertakes specialised geoscience research and development toward characterising and understanding South Africa’s geodynamic processes.
- Undertakes and lead the development and integration of fundamental geology, e.g., sedimentology, structure, metamorphic petrology, geochemistry, etc.
- Lead geoscience data mining, collection, interpretation, and modelling toward developing the knowledge and strength of South Africa’s developmental imperatives.
- Develops innovative and new methodologies that can be employed in South Africa’s development sectors.
- Compiles and oversee the development of reports, maps and similar publications on the Council for Geoscience’s exploration projects, and broader, geoscience programme.
- Report and present the findings of the Council for Geoscience’s exploration programme to key stakeholders.
- Make recommendations of the research at a regional, national, and inter-governmental level for both scientific and toward the benefit of South Africa’s national development sectors.

- Ensure effective/value-adding geological modelling is maintained as additional data becomes available.
- Co-develop, attain and sign-off geological models for multiple commodities according to specifications, and produce and sign-off the SAMREC/equivalent compliant mineral resource statements;

QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Matric (Grade 12) and;
- BSc Honours Degree in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in Resource estimation/mineral resource management and 20 years’ experience in fundamental geology and/or economic/exploration geology or,
- MSc in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in Resource estimation/Mineral resource management and 15 years’ experience in fundamental geology and/or economic/exploration geology or,
- PhD Degree in Geology/ Exploration Geology with a specialisation in Resource estimation/Mineral resource management and 10 years’ experience in fundamental Geology and/or Economic/Exploration geology;
- Experience in integrated geosciences, geodynamic modelling, mineral resource estimation and knowledge on various mineral resource reporting standards;
- Experience and ability to develop 3D geological, tectonic and mineral predictive modelling;
- Relevant publication record,
- Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat) registration with SACNASP

EXECUTIVE MANAGER – GEOSCIENTIFIC SERVICES

Overall Job Purpose: Accountable for the prudent management of the Geoscientific Services Portfolio, Scientifically/commercially and provide strategic leadership to the portfolio as well as ensuring implementation of the Council for Geoscience (CGS) strategic business plan and annual performance plan
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership and Management
- Participate and provide inputs at Executive Level in the drafting and formulation of the CGS strategic plans and policies.
- Develops and implement the divisional annual performance plan in line with the CGS strategy to ensure that the CGS focuses on objectives that enable delivery of its mandate, with particular reference to successful completion of key projects.
- Provides strategic leadership for the entire Geoscientific Services Portfolio, which includes Knowledge Management, Technical Services, and Analytical Services, consistent with the CGS’s mandate.
- Advises the CEO on the strategic partnerships to be considered in strengthening delivery of the CGS’s mandate.
- Ensures that the strategic objectives and operational/performance plans of the division are implemented in line with the CGS priorities with particular reference to:
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on key aspects of the divisional performance
- Complying with Geoscience Act, 1993 as amended and its Regulations
- Oversees the operations of the Geoscientific Services and manages its resources while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure prudent management of organisational programmes (e.g. Geoscience Technical Programme), in terms of appropriate proposal, scoping, financials, human resources and overall reporting, at cross regional and/or multidisciplinary levels.
- Develop and implement systems/tools for the execution, monitoring and completion of projects.
- Ensure timely reporting of quality divisional output.
- Ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (PFMA) and exercise proper financial control within the limits of the budget guidelines and long-term financial viability of the CGS.
- Promotes and ensure adherence to budget guidelines and long-term financial viability of the CGS.
- Promotes and ensure compliance with the CGS supply chain management policy and processes.
- Develops and leads transformation programme of the CGS aligned with the objectives of the Employment Equity Act.
- Implement professional and skills development for the entire divisional staff through structured processes, programmes and best practices in line with the CGS policies, strategies and geoscience professional development programmes.
- Ensures succession planning strategies and programmes are in place for the staff.
- Effectively leads and manages the Geoscientific Services division by maintaining a motivated team to deliver on CGS strategy within the allocated budget.
- Promotes culture and practices that reflect the CGS values and encourages good performance.
- Determines human resources requirements taking into consideration operational needs, skills scarcity and retention capability.
- Manages staff and administers the performance management system for all direct reports.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of individuals according to job requirements, EE targets and guidelines.
- Oversees the management of the leave and attendance process of staff.
- Oversee the staff development and training.
- Empowers staff and encourages innovation/creativity.
- Develops and maintains a healthy network of stakeholders and participates in public engagement programmes of the CGS.
- Ensure ISO accreditation of the various services within the Geoscientific Services Portfolio.
- Ensure implementation of the ISO standards and procedures across the Geoscientific Services Portfolio.

- Working knowledge and in depth exposure in Geoscientific Services.
- Demonstrate understanding of the South African and International Geoscience industry and its bearing on the development imperatives of South Africa.
- Demonstrate intimate knowledge of the Government policies and how these have a bearing on the mandate of the CGS.
- Demonstrate understanding of the research imperatives in the field of Geoscience.
- Substantive understanding of relevant legislation/prescripts that impacts on the business of the CGS.
- Sound knowledge on the functioning and structures of Government of South Africa.
- Demonstrable ability to manage a diverse portfolio of programmes.
- Ability to oversee geoscience data and information management, protection and preservation strategies.
- Knowledge of ISO standards and Operational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of PFMA.
- Good business and financial management acumen.
