COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE (CGS)
 
Job Title : Librarian: Unpublished Maps And Reports
Position Status: P9
Location: Pretoria
Reporting Line: Chief Librarian

Overall Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Librarian will be tasked in rendering effective and professional support services to the National Geoscience Library and Information services through the capture, maintenance and retrieval of geoscience collections.
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accurately provide information and literature research results to clients of the National Geoscience Library and Information services
  • Maintain a data and information catalogue of CGS publications
  • Dispatch new publications supplied on exchange programs to regional offices and deposit libraries
  • Capture, organise and maintain geoscience collections to meet demand
  • Maintain an effective filing system to enable the retrieval of records with ease
  • Promote awareness of and access to on-line database services and virtual reference platforms
  • Comply with information capture and retrieval processes in terms of legislative and audit requirements
 

KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge and experience in record management
  • Good understanding of knowledge and information services
  • Experience in an institutional information repository platform
  • Intermediate proficiency in database administration
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Relevant National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Library and or Information Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in science literature searches and information delivery
