Job Title : Librarian: Journals
Position Status: P09
Location: Pretoria
Reporting Line: Chief Librarian

Overall Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the Librarian is rendering effective and professional support services to the National Geoscience Library.
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide information services to the clients of the National Geoscience Library
  • Accessioning and display of new library journals/serials
  • Shelving and maintenance of the journals/serials collection
  • Inform Chief Librarian of possible collection gaps
  • Assist in the monitoring of the physical condition of the collections
  • Answers directional and reference queries – search online resources, and print materials to locate needed information
  • Identify material for repairs and binding
  • Answers directional and reference queries.
 

KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND REQUIRED SKILLS: 
  • Knowledge and experience in circulation, referencing and cataloguing
  • Experience with an institutional information repository platform
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of bibliographic control (cataloguing standards and rules, classification systems)
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Relevant National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Library and or Information Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in Circulation and Library requests as an Information Librarian
