CGS FULL-TIME BURSARY ADVERT 2022
 
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is mandated to collect and curate all geoscience data in South Africa, both on- and offshore. It aims to use these data to find meaningful geoscience solutions to respond to real-world challenges. With its Head Office situated in Silverton Pretoria, the CGS takes pride in having and building a winning team of scientists within the various fields of geoscience.
 
CALL TO APPLY FOR THE COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE FULL-TIME BURSARY

​The Council for Geoscience (CGS) herewith invites university students and Grade 12 learners to apply for a full-time CGS bursary for the 2022 academic year. The objective of the CGS bursary is to create, enhance and support expertise in the geosciences and related technical fields.
 
 
Eligibility:
  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Not employed and available for vacation work during studies and work back upon completion of studies, when required.
  • Planning to enroll full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2022 academic year.
  • Currently enrolled for Grade 12 with both Mathematics and Physical Science as key subjects.
  • Have completed Grade 12 with an achievement of Level 6 or higher in both Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Be a registered full-time student at a South African institution of higher learning.
  • For students currently at an institution of higher learning, must have passed all the courses for which they have registered for the study period already completed.
 

The CGS awards full-time bursaries in the following fields of study:
  • Engineering Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Hydrogeology (focus on groundwater modeling)
  • Geochemistry
  • Economic Geology
  • Geo-informatics
  • Remote sensing
  • Computational Geosciences
  • Mineral Economics
  • Mining seismology
  • Science Communication
NB: Only research topics defined by the CGS will be funded.

The bursary covers:
  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Accommodation and Meals
  • Prescribed Books
  • Excursions/research
  • Once off laptop allowance for first-time bursars.
 
YOUR APPLICATION MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
  • Application letter stating the field of study you are applying for;
  • An updated CV;
  • A copy of your certified identity document;
  • A copy of your latest academic record;
  • A copy of matric results for those who completed matric;
  • A copy of grade 11 results for those who are currently doing matric.
