The CCMA is seeking to appoint Commissioners in terms of section 117 of the Labour Relations Act in the following categories:
 
COMMISSIONERS (FULL-TIME)
 
Purpose of the Job
To conciliate, arbitrate disputes and provide statutory services, in terms of all Labour Legislation to ensure the CCMA provides efficient and effective dispute resolutions, management and prevention services to the labour market.
 
Key performance areas:
  • Conduct Conciliation (includes mediation and facilitation), Arbitration, Con-Arb and In-limine hearings
  • Complete Case Documentation and Processes
  • Draft settlement agreements, arbitration awards and rulings
 
Key requirements:
  • Unless a candidate can demonstrate relevant experience of not less than four (4) years in Industrial Relations, Labour Law or conducting conciliations, arbitration and facilitations; a relevant NQF level 6 tertiary qualification (preferably in Labour Law) is required.
  • Supported by a relevant tertiary qualification at NQF 6 or above (preferably in Labour Law)
  • Good knowledge of Labour Law
  • Good knowledge of Conciliation, Arbitration and Mediation processes and principles

Advanced preparation on the following statutes is essential, as an initial screening assessment will be conducted: LRA, BCEA, and EEA.
Recruitment will be in a phased approach. Shortlisted applicants will be expected to write an assessment at the Provinces/Offices where they applied. The assessments will be conducted in October 2023. Dates will be communicated to the shortlisted applicants.

Purpose: 
To lead, provide strategic support and guidance to all CCMA Operations including the Provinces, and through this ensure that the CCMA achieves all operational objectives and efficiencies while meeting all statutory obligations. Provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that CCMA has the proper operational control and reporting procedures to ensure efficiencies.

• Competent knowledge and practical experience in dealing with volumes of evidence and ability to extract silent matters/issues.
• Remain abreast of developments in the Employment Laws and identify early signs of potential risks and problems which require leadership intervention
• Knowledge of CCMA Rules, policies, processes, systems, operations and procedures
• Knowledge of Labour Market
• Knowledge of social partners – government and labour policies – in relation to the CCMA

Skills and Behavioural Competencies:
• Demonstration of application of foreign law and domestic law.
• Readily able to engage on complex legal issues without preliminary research.
• Experience in conducting high profile cases and able to interact with parties and balancing it with the labour market.
• Experience in publishing and or presenting papers internationally or domestically.
• Proven track record in imparting knowledge relating to labour matters.
• Full understanding of the ILO conventions and its applicability.
• Good communication and interpersonal relations skills at various levels .
• Planning and organisational skills. Take ownership of projects and implementation.
• Well informed, effective and timely decision making
• Emotional maturity
• Ability to think strategically and ability to put these into practice
• Ability to engage with Social Partners at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English


Key Requirements:
• Unless an applicant can demonstrate suitability through experience of not less than 10 years in senior management role, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Social Sciences is required.
• A post graduate qualification will be advantageous.
• At least 10 years’ experience in Industrial Relations environment / Employment Laws. Must be or have been a Practicing Commissioner.
• 3 – 5 years must be in a Senior Management position.
