COMMISSION FOR CONCILIATION, MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION (CCMA)
 


LEGAL RESEARCHER: OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR - NATIONAL OFFICE (POST LEVEL 05)
To provide Research, preparation of Speeches and Presentations as well as Project Management in support to the Director of the CCMA.
 
 Key Performance Areas:
In respect of Speeches, Presentations and Papers to be delivered by the Director:
Conduct Research into relevant topics such as Case Law and related; Existing Legislation & Amendments; Labour Market matters; Economic indicators; Collective Bargaining; CCMA work past and present.
Ascertain the research topic; methodology and tools to be employed in the research.
Conduct sampling and data collection through the Case Management System (CMS); External Agencies (National and International), Labour Market and Stakeholder Research; as well as other tools and media.
Preparing PowerPoint Speeches Presentations and Papers
Extract concise and relevant information from research conducted
Arrange the information into logical and meaningful sequence.
Prepare high-quality PowerPoint Speeches and/or Presentations for the Director with expansive notes and resource references.
 
Project Management
Undertake projects that support the achievement of the objectives of the CCMA Director.
 
Key Requirements:
Relevant Degree in Law, preferable employment laws.
Proven track record in researching Legal and related topics, uplifting relevant substance and preparing PowerPoint Presentations. A formal qualification in Research would be an added advantage.
Admitted Attorney or Advocate with court experience.
Exceptional Writing Skills in the English medium.
Strong Project Management Skills. A formal qualification in Project Management would be an added advantage.

MANAGER: LEGAL SERVICES - NATIONAL OFFICE - (POST LEVEL 04)
 
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), an independent world-class authority, that resolves labour disputes and provides advice and training on labour relations, is looking for a dynamic individual to head up its Legal Services Team and make a difference to the organisation.
This role is required to lead the Legal Services function through the implementation of policies, practices, processes, and through this ensure conformity and compliance to relevant legislation and contribute to ensuring the CCMA’s credibility in the labour market.

The incumbent will lead a team of professionals and will be responsible for:
• Financial management and control within the unit
• Identification of risk and mitigation
• Management of people within the unit including performance management.
• Provide a practical and legal advisory service;
• Institute and defend legal action;
• Ensure all contractual authorisations;
• Compile the Commissioner practical procedure and case law manuals; Provide ongoing support to Commissioners and also monitor reviews in the labour courts; and
• Be involved in recommending amendments to the LRA and the rules of the CCMA.
• Develop and execute legal strategy. Represent CCMA in courts including at the CCMA.
• Initiate/Prosecute in disciplinary processes
 
The CCMA is looking for someone with:
• exceptional team leadership and management capabilities.

• Able to identify and mitigate legal risks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, influencing, facilitation, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Assertive, resilient and able to work under pressure. Interpersonally agile and strong at building relationships and networks at all levels.
• Able to work independently, engage professionally with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders; and
• Deadline driven, adaptable to change and able to navigate ambiguity and deal with the unexpected
 
Key Requirements
• LLB Degree or any other Law degree
• 5 to 8 years’ experience in law and managerial skills
• Admitted Attorney or Advocate
• Experience in court litigation will be an advantage
• Extensive knowledge of all relevant employment laws and contract law
 
Detailed Experience
Expert drafting and contract negotiation, preparation, project management and administration skills. Knowledge of labour, company and commercial law with expertise in drafting contracts and structuring commercial transactions. High-level understanding of relevant domestic and foreign regulatory requirements and their impact on the labour market. Must be able to translate and communicate legal knowledge for a non- legal audience. Team leadership and management capabilities.
