ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER
Contract Position in the Administrative / Office Industry.
Salary: Market Related
Duties:
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Environmental Manager is accountable to the Unit Head: Safety, Health, Environment and Quality, of the Coega Development Corporation (Pty) Ltd.
MANDATE
The Environmental Manager’s mandate would be derived from the job description and the performance contract.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To support the Unit Head; SHEQ in ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental principles, specifications, conditions of the Environmental Authorisation (EA) are implemented, guidelines and issues identified through various CDC policies and studies are duly considered and incorporated into all activities which are undertaken by the CDC.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS
In pursuance of this primary objective, the Environmental Manager is required to:
Environmental Activities
Provide environmental and technical guidance in relation to CDC projects, planning and risk management;
Take a lead in ensuring compliance with all conditions of EA•s issued to CDC and investors/tenants;
Initiate and participate in relevant environmental forums and conduct stakeholder management;
Ensure legal and PFMA (Public Finance Management Act) compliance to all operations;
Project manage Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)•s undertaken on behalf of CDC, as well as provide the necessary support and guidance for EIA•s undertaken for potential investors/tenants in the SEZ;
Provide a strategic oversight and advisory role to investors/tenants, any environmental assessment practitioners conducting environmental permit applications in the Coega SEZ;
Develop and manage operational project budgets in line with financial guidelines and systems;
Actively participate in compliance monitoring of the relevant conditions in terms of the CDC•s EAs; e.g. ambient air quality monitoring, surface and ground water including storm water monitoring, alien plant eradication; rodent control etc.
REQUIREMENTS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE
As a minimum, a National Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, or similar
A minimum of 5 years• experience in Environmental Project Management.
Must have an extensive knowledge in implementing environmental legislation, in particular:
National Environmental Management Act of 107 of 1998 (NEMA) and other applicable legislation related to Environmental Management.
Occupational Health and Safety Act of 85 of 1993 ; Construction Regulations 2014 and other applicable legislation related to Occupational Health and Safety Management,
Ability to multitask and work to deadlines;
Ability to work independently;
Good interpersonal skills - the ability to communicate clearly and effectively;
Knowledge of how to present information to different audiences
STANDARD COMPLIANCE DUTIES
Furthermore, the incumbent must be aware that:
You are aware of and have access to the CDC•s SHEMS;
You are aware of your responsibilities and duties as laid out in the CDC•s SHEMS;
You are aware that you work in a safe and environmentally friendly manner;
You ensure that the company’s housekeeping standards are maintained throughout your area of responsibility;
You report any unsafe conditions or acts which you cannot rectify yourself to your SHE representative or to the Senior SHE Project Manager as soon as possible;
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Performance is monitored annually by assessing compliance to Key Performance Indicators identified in a consultative process and contained in a Balanced Scorecard.

Paterson Grade: D1
