ARTISAN CARPENTER
Contract Position in the Administrative / Office Industry.
Salary: Market Related
Duties: ACCOUNTABILITY
The Carpenter is accountable to the Maintenance Manager of the Vulindlela accommodation & conference center.
MANDATE
The Carpenter is mandated by the Maintenance Manager of the CDC to take responsibility to build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools. Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue and day to day functions as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS
The primary responsibility of the Carpenter is to, repair or install assets (both free-standing and fixed) using solid timber, flat-panel or timber-based products and a wide range of laminates and other materials within Vulindlela accommodation & conference centre. In pursuance of this primary responsibility, the Carpenter is required to:
- Communicate with clients to determine specific job requirements;
- Match furnishing styles and materials to clients' needs and or existing facilities;
- Deliver and monitor service to clients;
- Estimate job costs;
- Measure and draw layouts, compile materials lists for manufactured assets;
- Read and interpret work documents in order to prepare accurate cutting lists for jobs;
- Understand and select suitable timber and timber products for asset production;
- Fabricate custom assets;
- Prepare and assemble cabinets for installation;
- Select and install hardware to furnishings, such as handles, door locks and hinges;
- Alignment of doors and windows to ensure smooth operation;
- Perform on-site repairs and adjustments of cabinets;
- Clean and maintain work areas, including machinery and tools, to ensure a safe working environment;
- Do day to day handyman work as required by the maintenance manager;
- Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports with relevant signatures;
- Be willing to conduct general maintenance works; and
- Replenish and manage stock inventory as required.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
- Ensure that the end user operations run smoothly on a day to day basis;
- Perform scheduled maintenance service on all assets as per maintenance schedule;
- Comply with Building Regulations and SANS codes to installations, repairs and maintenance;
- Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met;
- Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported and graded;
- Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet SHE Specifications & requirements; and
- Understand CDC ICT systems- Oracle, CMMS, Timesheet etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years experience in a similar position;
- Strong background in Cabinet making / Carpentry;
- Valid driver’s license; and
- Relevant computer and communication skills.
