City Power Johannesburg SOC Limited is a municipal entity wholly owned by the City of Johannesburg. City Power commenced operations on 01 January 2001 and is responsible for electricity distribution within its area of supply in the City of Johannesburg.

Reporting to - Manager: Health Services 
 
Purpose
Responsible for the provision of an efficient and high quality advisory Occupational Health Service (OHS) City Power staff, external stakeholders. To ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, whilst promoting the health of all employees, as well as implementing strategies designed for a reduction in the risk of occupational ill health. 
 
 
Key responsibilities 
 Maintain the appropriate expertise and knowledge relating to the Occupational Health function in which you operate 
 Understand and use all appropriate Occupational Health systems and processes in an expert and compliant manner (e.g. MS Office, etc.) 
 Maintain registration with the appropriate professional associations, and comply with registration requirements (e.g. attend training, maintain credits, etc 
 Provide Occupational Health services according to the following policies, programs and standards: 
  • Occupational hygiene and related programs - includes conducting Issue-Based workplace assessments/work process reviews, inspection of ablution and canteens facilities as per OHS Act, ISO/OHSAS and giving advice to line managers in support of the business vision, 

  • Develop and implement a Risk Based Medical Surveillance Program and present results the program to senior management. Conducting relevant internal audits (monitoring and evaluation 
  • Minimum standard of fitness - conducting pre-placement, driver (includes renewal of PDPs), transfer and exit medical assessments/screening and advise line management/relevant committees as per relevant legislation. 
  • Provide business wide support on compliance with ISO/SANS/OHSAS management systems i.e. OHSAS 18001 in particular [includes participation in internal audits and conducting other Occupational health processes as per OHSAS 18001 requirements], 
  • Conduct return-to-work assessments in collaboration with external health specialist to determine medical fitness for duty and refer according to the guidelines of the standard, 
  • Treatment and rehabilitation of COID cases, Liaise with external service providers. 
  • Conduct hospital visits in support of the injured employee and the family as well as line management. 
  • Initiation of COID insurance claims in relation to work related diseases, Ensure regular follow up on submitted claims i.e. with other members of the multidisciplinary team 
  • Provide support to the HIV program and other related programs 
  • Support the Physical Fitness Plan – by conducting medical monitoring/screenings as and when required 
  • Health Awareness and Training Programs - conducting one on one health talks, quarterly health campaigns and monthly health topics, advise management and employees at large about any epidemic and pandemic that has erupted at a particular season, and necessary steps to follow when affected or infected . 
  • Provide support to the Disability/ Special Dispensation Sick Leave (SDSL), includes hospital visits, advise to committee etc. 
  • Corporate Health and Wellness processes that will support the vision of the company and ensure alignment with relevant best practices 
  • First Aid (FA) Management Program – includes ensuring that first aid boxes are in place, FA contents are replenished according to General Safety Regulations, conducting first aid audits, conduct first aid meetings and in-house refresher training) 
  • Support the Disaster Management Plan [As first line responders in case of medical emergencies, effective management of injuries/medical condition and refer relevantly for further management. Present the feedback to management 
 Provide advice to employees, line managers and various committees , regarding Occupational Health issues, ( including feedback to management regarding the general health profile of employees) 
 Conduct all activities throughout the entire process in the strictest confidence, with special consideration for preserving all medical and patient information, and maintaining patient trust at all times 
 Provide Primary Health Care (PHC) services Medicine and drug management, including stocks, re-order levels, storage and dispensing protocols, etc. 
 Provide accurate and timely reporting and information

This includes the development of a sustainable sports & recreation programme. 
• Ability to understand and examine the challenges facing our society combined with the realistic knowledge of the impact of City Power and their communities. Ability to create solutions that can address societal issues and needs. 
 
Minimum qualifications 
• Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health or a B-Tech in Occupational Health or the equivalent 
 
Related Minimum Experience 
• 3 years’ experience 
 
Professional Registration 
 South African Nursing Council (SANC) and 
 South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses (SASOHN)
