DESIGNATION: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER FIXED TERM CONTRACT: 2,5 YEARS
Appointment Requirements:
Post graduate degree or bachelors honours degree (NQF level 8) in engineering
A master’s degree (NQF level 9) is advantageous
A minimum of 12 years’ relevant experience in an organisation with a workforce of at least 1,500 employees. Seven of the 12 years’ relevant experience must have been at an executive management level and been part of EXCO.
Have proven successful institutional transformation within the public or private sector
Experience working in the energy sector is advantageous
Experience working in an environment that is regulated by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) or the Public Finance Management Act (PMFA) is advantageous
Registration as an Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is advantageous

Primary Function:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has the responsibility to coordinate mission critical functions while focusing on the more operational needs of City Power by pulling together the integrated operations value chain i.e. build, operate, maintain, restore and service customers. To ensure ROI and enable spend for revenue generation that also leads to satisfied customers. The COO has the responsibility and authority for the effective leadership to achieve a performance level in line with agreed objectives, with particular emphasis on:
Improving the availability and performance of the engineering core/ strategic assets of City Power;
Reducing the cost of operating the engineering core/ strategic assets of City Power; and
Increasing collections and providing the highest levels of customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
The COO is responsible for Strategic Leadership and Direction of the Mission Critical Groups (the Core Business Functions) of City Power by: He/She is responsible for Functional Leadership and Direction of the Mission Critical Groups of City Power. Overseeing the management of the Operations and Maintenance function. Overseeing the management of the Engineering Services function. Overseeing the management of the Retail function. The Chief Operating Officer influences operational excellence, which includes directing a step change in performance and securing the current and future mandate to operate the Mission Critical Groups of City Power. He/She must manage of all of the Mission Critical Groups of City Power resources to achieve the desired business performance. He/She is responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Management of the Mission Critical Groups of City Power. The Chief Operating Officer leads the business by enabling stakeholder relationship management.
