Job purpose
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is recruiting for entry-level Police Trainees and invites applications from all races and genders, as well as from young, energetic, intelligent, physically and mentally fit individuals dedicated to serving the City of Tshwane by pursuing a career in policing for enlistment in the Metro Policing Training Programme.
Selection criteria
(a) Grade 12 qualification of which documentary proof must be submitted
(b) Must possess a valid driving licence for a manual transmission type vehicle and be subjected to and pass a departmental practical driving test
(c) Must have no criminal record or pending criminal cases (awaiting trial) and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the TMPD at own cost
(d) Applicant who appears on the register for sexual and child offenders as well as those who were dismissed as a result of misconduct in the government will not be considered
(e) Must be a South African citizen and resident of the City of Tshwane metropolitan area (attach proof of residence and affidavit to confirm address if the surname differs from the registered owner)
(f) Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years
(g) Must be medically fit as per occupational health procedures and must submit a medical certificate as proof that they may do strenuous exercise
(h) Must complete a physical fitness evaluation and assessment
(i) Must be willing to be subjected to and pass a psychometric assessment
(j) Must be proficient in English and pass an assessment
(k) Must have not been declared incompetent to possess a firearm in terms of Sections 102, 103 or 104 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act 60 of 2000)
(l) Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the service
(m) Must be prepared to sign a code of conduct of the Tshwane Metro Police Department

Good communication skills; energetic; intelligence; physically and mentally fit; dedication to serving the City by pursuing a career in policing
Primary functions
Successful candidates will serve as functional metro police officials to uphold and enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996). As such, they will be deployed to carry out one or more of the following municipal police service functions:
(a) Traffic policing, subject to any legislation relating to road traffic
(b) Policing municipal by-laws and regulations, which are the responsibility of the municipality in question
(c) Preventing crime
