Primary Function: Maintain and ensure all the safety and security of Museum Africa building, its property, exhibitions and collections, staff, visitors and public a 24 hour, shift basis. Patrol all public areas and galleries in the museum as assigned by the head of the institution and security supervisor. To monitor any suspicious activities, thefts or vandalism and to report any suspicious activities to the security supervisor. Report any problems in exhibition areas and galleries including any exhibition item broken, areas in need of lighting and /or electrical repairs; or a situation which presents danger to public safety. Assist with security requirement during functions and special events organized in the museum. At least 5 years’ working experience as a conservation officer in an arts or heritage environment.
Primary Function: Manage the conservation unit of the Johannesburg Art Gallery to ensure international museum accredited standards in terms of preservation and conservation are met, including all administrative duties associated with managing a team of conservators. To ensure that all objects in the collection are protected from risk and deterioration, which might arise from adverse climate condition or poor storage conditions. To protect the city’s assets from depreciation in value and to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Southern Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
Key Performance Areas: Develop and implement plans, policies and procedures for conservation of museum collections. Develop and maintain a dynamic collections policy, with input from all the curators and the Chief Curator, ensuring it is aligned with the museum vision, and to review it annually. Evaluate, prioritise and coordinate the conservation. Study objects. Organize systematic inspection of the museum’s collection. Develop strategies to ensure the safety and security of items in the collection. Conduct research into the material and technological (techniques) nature of collections. Oversee provision of storage facilities to museum standards. Ensure that the conservators undertake conservation and restoration procedures to correct damage or prevent deterioration. Advise on the cleaning of objects, such as paper, textiles, paintings, wood, leather, glass, ceramics and furniture. Oversee loan requests, both in and both, and internal requests to use items. Estimate costs of restoration work. Provide input for the museum’s annual capital expenditure budget. Provide input for the museum’s annual operating expenditure budgets. Manage the Ops Managers: Collections, Ops Manager: Conservation, 4 Curators of the various collections and the Registrar.

Appointment Requirements:
Associate Diploma (SAESI) or IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Science & Fire Safety or National Diploma Fire Technology at NQF 6 (which takes precedence);
Grade 12 at NQF level 4;
Fluent to talk and type English;
IFSAC Certified Fire FIGHTER I & II NFPA1001 & Hazmat Awareness and Operations NFPA 472;
Driver Operator Pumps;
Driver Operator Aerial;
Rescue Technician;
ETPD statement of Results for Assessor and Moderator;
Current Registration with the HPCSA at BLS level;
Valid Driver’s license (Code C) and valid PDP;
Certified IFSAC NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level 1;
Advanced competency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
3 years’ experience as a Tutor within the Emergency Management services; (or)
3 years as an Operational Platoon Commander with 4 years’ experience as a Facilitator/Assessor in an accredited academy with SAESI and a SETA.
Primary Function Respond to emergencies, saving lives and protecting property. Performing Quality Assurance of skills in the workplace and on scene, to determine skills and capacitating learners and fire fighters with the knowledge, skills, and competence to safely work within an emergency setting, saving lives and protecting properly, manage resources and facilities to ensure training is continued in a safe and reliable manner.
Key Performance Areas: Align academy activities, Procedures & Rules. Plan work procedures, standards and performance outputs. Establish an effective and efficient administrative system. Maintain preparedness and respond to all large scale emergency incidents and incidents requiring specialist skills and knowledge. Develop, implement, and control Continual Professional development program. Assist with the development of the training courses and do preparation prior to implementation. Facilitate the training process, including class lectures, workplace experience, on the road practical experience and Hospital Experience or live fire-fighting drills, as and when Training officer is not available. Conduct Assessment of all Training in accordance with the Framework set out by the regulating authority. Audit all administrative matters that involve the Training Officer. Manage the Academy Assets. Implement the necessary disciplinary procedures and performance management systems. Audit the management of resource of the academy. Manage all Human Resource related issues experience with Specialist platoon development manager, leaners prior, during and after training process. Manage the Safety of all who, may be exposed to risk resulting from their activities.
Leading Competencies: Good knowledge of Fire Brigades Services Act, National Qualifications Frame work Act, Skills Development Act, Health and Safety Act. All knowledge Components in NFPA 1001, NFPA 1002 (Chapter 5, 6 &10), NFPA 1041 (CHAPTER 4), NFPA 1072 (chapter 5&6). Good knowledge of Driving policy, Collective disciplinary agreement. Basic Ambulance curriculum.
Core Competencies: All skills. Components in NFPA 1001, NFPA 1002 (Chapter 5, 6&10), NFPA 1041 (CHAPTER 5&6). Basic Ambulance protocol.
