STUDENT INTERNSHIP POSITION: 
GROUP STRATEGY, POLICY COORDINATION AND RELATIONS DEPARTMENT (GSPCR)

An internship programme is an intervention by the City of Johannesburg to address the growing demand by a tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of academic qualification to obtain experiential training. The City is committed to providing work-based training for students.
 
• This Vacancy is open to all qualifying STUDENTS in the Johannesburg Community for a period not exceeding 18 months

DEPARTMENT: Group Strategy, Policy Coordination and 
Relations (GSPCR) 
BRANCH: Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) 
DESIGNATION: Internship: Power BI-Monitoring & Evaluation 
REMUNERATION:
(Qualification completed with min 360 credits): R8 620,79 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits) 
(Enrolled as a student): R3 500.00 pm (Basic salary, no benefits) 
LOCATION: 48 Ameshoff Street, Braamfontein 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
• Grade 12 at NQF level 4; 
• A 3-year degree/diploma BSC in Computer Science or related information system; 
• Exposure in data preparation, data gateway and data warehousing projects would be an advantage; 
• Only City of Joburg residents will be considered. 
 
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ensure implementation of effective mechanisms for institutional performance monitoring and evaluation and reporting City-wide, thereby ensuring that they are aligned with City and Government norms, standards, regulations, and guidelines. Support the Deputy Director and M&E Specialists in terms of conducting assessments of quarterly reported performance progress. Support M&E Specialists, Assistant Directors in terms of verifying performance evidence. Support Assistant Directors in terms of M&E content for reporting requirements. Management of M&E data for all SDBIP KPIs. A Power BI developer typically has complete knowledge of the BI system, they are responsible for the development and administration of BI tools and their main duty is to transform raw data into meaningful insights. This is accomplished through interactive and user-friendly dashboards and reports. 
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: 
• Create functional reporting, Power BI Analyst, Power BI Consultant, Power BI Developer of the CoJ: SDBIP and Business Plans; 
• Ensure that the administrative tasks pertaining to the function are executed timeously and efficiently; 
• Provide consolidated feedback to the Deputy Director and Assistant Director. 
 
LEADING COMPETENCIES: 
• Computer literacy (MS Office applications), email, Power BI, MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and TSQL, Power Query, MDX and DAX; 
• Reporting, excellent communication and networking skills; 
• Creating analytical solutions, goal orientation, customer focus and attention to detail; 
• Integrity and negotiation skills; 
• Financial management skills. 
 
CORE COMPETENCIES: 
• Knowledge in Power BI is a business intelligence and analytics service from Microsoft; 
• Provide interactive visualisations and high-end analytics capabilities that help everyone to make smarter, real-time decisions; 
• Sound understanding of Power BI and BI tools utilization (use and interactive visualisations); 
• Design, build and deploy reports and dashboard using MS Power BI; 
• Teamwork and adherence to policies and regulations.
