SEASONAL LIFEGUARD 
SHORT-TERM CONTRACT 
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Community Development Department has the following short-term contract opportunity for a period NOT exceeding eight (08) months. 

DEPARTMENT: Community Development 
BRANCH: Sports and Recreation 
DESIGNATION: Seasonal Lifeguards 
REMUNERATION: R13 520.71 pm (basic salary, no benefits) 
LOCATION: Various Regions 
 
Minimum Requirements: 
• Grade 10/NQF level 2 is required 
• Lifeguard Award plus valid retest. 
• At least one (1) year’s Lifeguard experience. 
• General, valid First Aids certificate. 
• Only City of Joburg residents will be considered. 
 
Primary Function:
Ensure that a swimming pool operates efficiently and maintain high standards of safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and public relations at the pool. 
 
Key Learning Areas: 
• Perform rescues and certain administrative duties. 
• Render First Aid. 
 
Leading Competencies:
• Accountability; 
• Pool safety and knowledge of chemicals and use. 
 
Core Competencies: 
• Must be able to swim; 
• Must be able to render first Aid; 
• Must be able to carry or lift objects; 
• Must be able to safely clean pool with chemicals.
