SENIOR ANALYST - INVESTMENTS AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT X2

CEF is a Schedule 2 state owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. The Mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of energy supply of South Africa and the Region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnership. It is derived from the CEF Act (No 38 of 1977) and the Ministerial directives issued thereafter.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Matric (NQF Level 4) and National Diploma (NQF Level 6)/ Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7)
• Honours or post graduate diploma (NQF Level 8) as an added advantage.
• 6-8 years' experience of which 3 years must be at a specialist level within Investment Banking and or Private Equity (M&A, Corporate Finance, Project Finance) with previous experience in the Energy Industry (Oil and Gas and/or Power sectors).
DESIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of the Energy value chain and its commodities.
• Knowledge and analysis/application of predictive financial models that informs business strategies and growth.
• Technically proficient in statistics, economics in the energy fields and its commodities, and understanding of tools used in predictive investments modelling.
• Track record in implementation of capital projects and creating partner arrangements in Africa and Globally.
• Understanding of the Clean Energy Sector.
• Knowledge of a suite of banking/financial products, services and solutions.
• Experience in Capital Raising, including relevant credit processes.
• Experience in business growth including M&A, Partnerships (JVs, PPP) etc.
• Strong Corporate Finance and M&A background in the Energy and or Oil & Gas.
• Knowledge of an investment process: Origination, Screening & due diligence, deal structuring, approval & implementation.
• Practical skills, experience and demonstrable track record in analysing / understanding, developing and creating financial models.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Project Development, Deal structuring and evaluation
• Facilitate the origination of a pipeline of Energy sector projects, identifying and screening investment opportunities locally and within the continent.
• Administer and assist with undertaking the required due diligence, ability to read/create and understand financial models, risk analysis and mitigation in the structuring of transactions (including funding there-of) for identified and approved growth/investment opportunities.
• Administer and assist with the assessment of viability of the business opportunities by taking into consideration the following:
• Administer and assist with due diligence on project worthiness, provide financial projections and impact in deal structuring.
• Administer and assist with the internal approvals process through all the governance structures.
• Contribute to the initial assessment reports and provide Project and Investment market intelligence research notes to CEF Group
Financial and Economic modelling
• Administer and assist in the development, enhancement, and implementation of financial and or economic and or other quantitative models to predict growth/loss and financial performance in energy demands at both country and global levels.
• Administer and assist in the preparation of draft Economic Modelling Frameworks to determine and predict changes in the energy industry, commodities demand trends that will inform the Group investment and growth strategies.
• Administer and assist in the development of financial and or economic models from conceptualization through data exploration, model selection, validation, and implementation.
• Administer and assist in developing Frameworks to analyse data that will provide cost benefit analysis and predict performance to assess business cases for investments.
• Monitors and understands emerging risks and global commodity trends that can affect business investments.
• Conduct research on new internal and external market dynamics and impact on the investments.
• Communicates technical subject matters clearly and concisely to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Support the GM by developing in collaboration with CEF Finance, assist in developing short term and long-term plans that supports the Group Strategy to achieve growth and commercial Corporate annual and long-term strategic plans.
Business Development/Growth
• Administer and Assist in the development of business concepts from incubation to maturity and operation.
• Administer and Assist in developing and implementing a policy that will guide and manage how business development opportunities will be managed within the group from Prospect to monetization.
• Identify and convert the business opportunities prospects that will increase the CEF Group asset base through Mergers & Acquisitions, Project Development/Sponsorship, Equity Investments, Joint Ventures, Private Public Partnerships and Special Purpose Vehicles.
• Assist in ensuring the alignment of effective implementation of the CEF Group strategies to drive aggressive growth to achieve long-term sustainability
• Grow and increase market share of various CEF Group commodity portfolios (e.g., Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas etc.).
• Administer and Assist in researching and drafting strategies that will position the CEF Group to take advantage of current competitive information on a continuous basis, including: competitive pricing, policy changes, product development, and marketing strategies.
• Assist in developing strategic asset position to achieve the strategic imperative of securing security of energy supply to the country.
• Identifying and develop new capability (through technology, organic development, partnerships or acquisition)
• Assist in identifying new business initiatives and expansion opportunities that align with the CEF Group's business goals and strategic growth plans
• Coordinate the streamlining of the current CEF Group assets to ensure effective management and increased ROI
• Advise the GM on asset portfolio acquisition and divestment.
• Grow the CEF brand via networking, attending /presenting at conferences & seminars, G2G secondment, etc.
Investment Committee
• Coordinate and track CEF SoC and or Group Project and Investment Portfolio through the various phases of approval
• Prepare and collate CEF SoC and or CEF Group Investment Committee Submissions
• Draft and maintain Concept to Finalization Release Approval Templates to be used for all submissions to Group Project and Investment Portfolio Committee.
• Ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority Governance Model and Report deviations.
• Prepare Investment Committee feedback reports to GM, Exco and quarterly Board reports
Optimisation of operating investments
• Monitor the performance of the relevant CEF investments and annually administer and assist in the development of internal hurdle rates
• Report the progress of the investment to GM
• Compile a Consolidated Group Monthly EXCO report and the Quarterly Board Report detail in Capex Requirements and Maturity stages of Projects/Investments.
• Analyze and monitor the different investment portfolios and Advice the GM on a divestment option and process
• Analyze returns/benefits of projects, monitor investment performance and advice relevant stakeholder on relevant action required.
• Provide analysis and Benchmarks on CEF Group Portfolio performance against industry
Post-care monitoring
• Assist and collaborate with CEF Finance in ensuring that interest on any funding product in place for capital projects / investments is serviced and capital is repaid per relevant debt agreements
• Assist and collaborate with CEF Finance in ensuring the issue of certificates for covenants, undertakings, etc.
Mergers and Acquisitions
• Administer and Assist in leading the process on Mergers and Acquisitions
• Assess and advise on the strategic fit of potential targets and impact on CEF Group
• Ensure strategic linkage of potential targets to the strategic imperatives of CEF.
• Ensure that Group and financial targets requirements are met.
• Participate in business case development and progression through various Project investment approval stages.
Stakeholder Management
• Liaise with internal and external auditors ensuring that all Project and Investment Portfolio matters raised by auditors in queries, management letters and audit reports are addressed
• Communicate and provide stakeholder management of group wide project portfolio
• Facilitate the Project and Investment roadshow with institutional funders
• Provide an Investor Relations platform to communicate with key funders, clients and other stakeholders on their needs and resolve queries
• Interact with State Departments and other bodies where required and ensure alignment of interests and expectation
People Management
• Contribute in the transformation and change management regarding organisational values, ethics and code of conduct.
• Provide insight and assistance in promoting a diversified, non- discriminatory and integrated workplace.
• Promote diversity through planned activities aimed at building sensitivity and support for others
