Job Description
CapeNature seeks to appoint a dynamic individual to undertake protected area operations at the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve to support and assist the Conservation Manager in the provision of professional, coordinated and integrated protected area management and project management to enhance ecosystem conservation and restoration, promote landscape conservation and stewardship, facilitate access, promote advocacy and practice responsibility to ensure performance and risk management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

KPA 1 – Protected Area Management and Integrated Catchment Management
  • Assist Reserve Management to achieve effective protected area management and expansion of the protected area estate aligned to relevant strategic plans.
  • Demonstrate strategic capability and leadership and implement the protected area management plan and associated subsidiary and annual plans of operation, including monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  • Interpret and implement applicable biodiversity, conservation, financial and administrative policies, plans, systems, standard operating procedures and guidelines• Assist Reserve Management to achieve effective Integrated Catchment Management aligned to relevant strategic and operational plans and mitigate risk.
  • Assist Reserve Management with effective biodiversity management to integrate conservation, access and heritage management, implement sustainable utilisation and identify and mitigate risks.
  • Assist Reserve Management with conservation operations and monitoring at protected area and landscape level and ensure progressive operationalisation of various CapeNature initiatives.
  • Assist Reserve Management with progressive Integrated Catchment Management, with regards to invasive species, fire, and fuel load management.
  • Manage special projects and implement contract management.
  • Manage and maintain infrastructure.
  • Prepare progress reports as per agreed timeframes and report on the implementation of work plans.
  • Compile site level data to inform annual plans of operation and draft relevant plans with the support of Reserve Management.
 
KPA 2 – Human Resource Management and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Manage the Hottentots Holland staff component in line with applicable legislative frameworks, policy, and procedure to ensure a highly productive and motivated team.
  • Implement performance management.
  • Ensure that targets for the number of Full Time Equivalents (FTEs) appointed at Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve are always met.
  • Prepare and submit quality reports, attendance registers, standby pre-approvals and claims, subsistence and travel claims, overtime pre-approvals and claims in the prescribed formats timeously.
  • Implement and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Act policy and procedure and ensure sound incident reporting and investigation.

KPA 3 – Finance and Administration and Asset / Inventory Management
  • Implement sound financial and administration management in accordance with applicable legislative frameworks, policy, and procedure.
  • Implement and adhere to procurement policy and procedure.
  • Support effective financial, supply chain management, asset, fleet, and administration management for the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve.
  • Implement asset and inventory stock management and control.

KPA 4 – Environmental Education and Awareness and Stakeholder Management
  • Implement Environmental Education and Awareness as per strategic plans, subsidiary plans and annual plans of operation.
  • Facilitate access and citizen science at the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve.
  • Play an active role in the Hottentots Holland Protected Area Advisory Committee.
  • Maintain a sound relationship with neighbours and researchers.
  • Support Reserve Management in the collaboration with neighbours and relevant stakeholders to collectively address land and / or water use activities that may have a detrimental impact on the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve.

KPA 5 – Compliance Monitoring and Law Enforcement
  • Implement effective compliance monitoring and law enforcement in Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve and the Zone of Influence to protect biodiversity and promote voluntary compliance.
  • Undertake regular patrols and implement rapid response / contingency plans.
  • Maintain the compliance and enforcement monitoring database and prepare monthly reports.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma in Nature Conservation.
  • At least three years’ appropriate experience.
  • Appropriate ICS 200/300 training.
  • Project Management qualification and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to drive on 4x4 terrain.
  • Experience working with and fostering good relationships with local communities.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, after hours and perform stand-by duties.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation.
  • Thorough working knowledge of MS Office and QGIS.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties under physically demanding conditions.
  • Good written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
  • Bilingualism in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Willingness to live and work in remote protected areas.

Job Description

Job Description
This position is suited to a dedicated conservationist who would like to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity through primarily vessel based marine and coastal anti-poaching and enforcement operations within the Berg Estuary at Velddrift.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
KRA 1: Contribute to marine and coastal conservation action to enhance biodiversity resilience through targeted ecosystem conservation and restoration initiatives.
  • This includes planning, implementation, and monitoring of conservation and restoration efforts to protect and conserve a functioning estuary and MPA and the associated species.
  • Participate in any disaster management responses at a local level.
  • Implementation of estuary related planning systems and tools.
 
KRA 2: Contribute to marine and coastal conservation in ways that address biodiversity loss.
  • Prioritize ecosystems and key indicator species thereby contributing to their conservation.
  • Participate where both Conservation Operations and Biodiversity Capabilities components implement solution-based conservation-orientated interventions.
  • Ensure that applied research (internal and external) mainstreamed to influence local and Marine and Coasts planning and decision-making processes. 
 
KRA 3: To assist in risk management, governance, compliance monitoring, and effective enforcement operations in the Landscape.
  • Be aware of and participate in interventions that predict, minimize, and mitigate risks due to unnatural and natural disasters.
  • Ensuring that enforcement operations are effective in achieving the objectives of the estuary and MPA management plan and associated legislation, policies, agreements.
  • Participation in estuary and MPA based partnerships, especially with regards to law enforcement and compliance monitoring.
  • Advocate for behavioral change and promote voluntary compliance.
  • Identify and motivate for innovation and improved technologies.
 
KRA 4: Contribute to marine and coastal conservation in promoting the biodiversity economy and enhancing biodiversity access and sustainable use.
  • This includes participating in local partnerships with a focus on conservation as well as any associated non-extractive socio-economic benefits and community empowerment opportunities.
  • Identify and participate in projects that are based on sustainable non-extractive economic opportunities, aligned to the entity’s directive to enhance access and socio-economic opportunities.
  • Support for the implementation of targeted biodiversity economic activities to promote job creation, work opportunities, and livelihood support.
  • Participate in initiatives that promote access to the estuary for recreational, educational, and traditional purposes (ecotourism offering and access to communities).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Skippers License (Category “R”, “E” or higher).
  • At least 2 years of job-related experience with an emphasis on estuary, coastal or marine enforcement and anti-poaching fields
  • Working knowledge of enforcement operations, operational plans and vessel-based operations.

Job Description
CapeNature seeks to employ an experienced and creative digital content specialist to manage its digital channels i.e., website, social media and e-newsletters. This role requires a solid understanding and advanced experience in online content management on all social media platforms as well as a corporate and marketing website. The successful individual will be based at CapeNature’s head office in Bridgetown (Cape Town), occasionally traveling to reserves for content creation and stakeholder engagements across the Western Cape.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

KPA 1 - Implementation of Digital Strategy
Develop and execute a digital strategy for website, e-newsletters and social media channels ensuring increased engagement, complemented by paid media, targeting local and international audiences. This includes influencer strategy to support relevant campaigns.

KPA 2 – Digital Analytics and Reporting

Create and produce creative video, imagery and copy customised for multiple digital platforms for selective campaigns and events. This can include graphic design and motion graphics.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • National Diploma or Degree in Communication, Social Media, Digital Marketing, Information Technology, Social Sciences or related disciplines. (NQF level 6).
  • At least 4 years’ experience in digital platforms environment (not including internships).
  • Proven excellent language proficiency in English.
  • Basic skills in video production and editing
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Adobe Creative Cloud and Windows OS proficiency
  • CV/portfolio must include examples of digital campaigns and brands worked for on most or all of the digital platforms (Website, X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok) as well as examples of creative work created.
  • A valid Code B drivers’ license

RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Experience in a content management system
  • Background or basic knowledge of tourism, marketing and conservation or related fields will be advantageous.

Job Description
CapeNature seeks to employ an experienced and enthusiastic Contact Centre Manager to provide excellent customer service and to promote this idea throughout the organisation. This role requires a solid understanding of customer service with a clear goal to keep the Customer Service Agents running in an efficient and profitable manner, to increase customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention and to meet their expectations. This includes achieving optimal daily performance, delivering exceptional customer-centric services, adhering to sound governance principles, and ensuring ethical financial transaction reporting. The successful candidate will be based at CapeNature’s Head Office and will be tasked with leading the contact centre team to uphold the highest standards of service excellence and operational compliance. Occasional travel is required to reserves for product educationals. activations, site visits and stakeholder engagements across the Western Cape.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

KPA 1 – Data Analysis and Statistical Reporting
  • To ensure accurate accounting of all data of the booking reservation system to meet operational and organisational goals and objectives and by providing Management Reporting.

KPA 2 – Revenue Generation and Sales Growth
  • To manage financial management related tasks specific to the booking reservation system, with particular focus on revenue generated through tourism accommodation and activities. To assist with e-commerce revenue income performance. To assist with revenue and sales income linked to campaigns.

KPA 3 – Contact Centre Performance & Customer Service
  • To enhance customer satisfaction through customer centricity by providing excellent levels of customer service to the stakeholders of CapeNature, specific to the Contact Centre.

KPA 4 – System Management & Compliance
  • To ensure adherence to and compliance with all policies, procedures, standards and processes of CapeNature with specific reference to the Contact Centre operations. To ensure that all systems and applications managed in the Contact Centre are maintained and audit compliant.

KPA 5 – Quality Assurance & Innovation
  • To acquire/ grow, retain and ensure engaged customers. Mentor and develop customer service agents and nurture a positive sales-driven environment. Keep ahead of industry’s developments and apply best practices to areas of improvement

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • To manage the Contact Centre team and all related operational elements and to ensure sound administration processes. Improve customer service experience, create engaged customers and facilitate organic growth.
  • Take ownership of customers issues and follow problems through to resolution.
  • Set a clear mission and deploy strategies focused on call centre productively; call targets, call hold times, abandon rates and email/ offline turn around.
  • Develop service procedures, policies and standards.
  • Ensure financial and administrative compliance to sales processes, payments, and refunds weekly, monthly and year end processes.
  • Keep accurate records and document customer service actions and discussions,
  • Analyse statistics and compile accurate reports.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop customer service agents and nurture an environment where they can excel through encouragement and empowerment.
  • Keep ahead of industry’s developments and apply best practices to areas of improvement.
  • Control resources and utilise assets to achieve qualitative and quantitative targets.
  • Maintain an orderly workflow according to priorities.
  • Provide input into marketing, sales campaigns, and promotions.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree (NQF7) or Diploma (NQF6) in business, administration, finance, statistics, customer service management or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ managerial experience in a Call Centre environment.
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical reporting in a managing a Call Centre environment and audit governance compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and statistical software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyse data and provide insights and recommendations for operational and organisational goals.
  • Experience in developing and delivering management reporting.
  • Knowledge of e-commerce revenue income performance and third-party booking integration and sales income.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a customer-centric approach.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of customer service agents to meet and exceed customer service targets.
  • Experience in implementing and managing contact centre technology, systems and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements related to contact centre operations.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining contact centre systems and applications, including call centre software, CRM software, and IVR systems.
  • Ability to develop and implement quality assurance programs and processes to ensure high-quality customer service.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring customer service agents to improve performance and engagement.
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends and best practices in the contact centre industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across function and teams to achieve operational and organisational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
