OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER
Job Profile:
• Develop and maintain a safe and healthy work environment
• Evaluate, advises and approves all Health and Safety Plans by examining these plans to ensure that all Health and Safety aspects have been thoroughly covered and in keeping with applicable legislation
• Keeps registers of site visits by completing prescribed reports to ensure that all problems, incidents and accidents are recorded for future claims and that all instructions are also recorded
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements
• Co-ordinate Health and Safety teams, Health and Safety representatives and Health and Safety Committee meetings in terms of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993
• Identification of potential hazards and risks enabling the Departments to adequately plan and prepare to reduce/minimize the impact and consequences
• Develop and implement an emergency plan in the event of any emergency situation or major incident that may arise
• Conduct inspections and investigations of buildings, construction sites, contractors, premises or other occupied premises and/or open spaces and/or public facilities to determine compliance to by-laws and statutory legislation
• Processes all Health and Safety related correspondence by reading, conducting research and carrying out necessary investigations
• Advises employees on safety issues and address all complaints
• Reporting on OHS related activities
• Outline Cape Winelands District Municipality’s expectations from service providers/contractors in relation to Occupational Health and Safety obligations
• Conduct training courses as and when required
• Efficiently administering workmen’s compensation claims regarding occupational injuries
Requirements:
• National Diploma (NQF 6)
• Registered and in good standing with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO)
• 3 years relevant experience including experience in road construction
• Valid Code B driver’s license
• Sound knowledge of applicable legislation and policies
• Excellent verbal and report writing skills
• Excellent communication skills in at least two of the three languages of the Western Cape Province
• Computer literacy
• Sound interpersonal skills
• Must be willing to work overtime and travel
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Discretion and respect for confidentiality and privacy
Salary: R279,516 – R362,808 per annum

BEROEPSGESONDHEID- EN VEILIGHEIDSBEAMPTE
Posprofiel:
• Ontwikkel en handhaaf ’n veilige en gesonde werkomgewing
• Evalueer, adviseer en keur alle gesondheids- en veiligheidsplanne goed, deur hierdie planne te ondersoek om te verseker dat alle gesondheids- en veiligheidsaspekte deeglik aangespreek en in ooreenstemming met toepaslike wetgewing is
• Hou registers van terreinbesoeke deur voorgeskrewe verslae te voltooi om te verseker dat alle probleme, insidente en ongelukke vir toekomstige eise aangeteken word en dat alle instruksies ook aangeteken word
• Verseker nakoming van die toepaslike wetlike vereistes
• Koördineer gesondheids- en veiligheidspanne, gesondheids- en veiligheidsverteenwoordigers en vergaderings van die gesondheids- en veiligheidskomitee, ingevolge die Wet op Beroepsgesondheid en Veiligheid, Wet 85 van 1993
• Identifisering van potensiële gevare en risiko’s ten einde die departemente in staat te stel om behoorlik te beplan en voor te berei om die impak en gevolge te verminder/minimaliseer
• Ontwikkel en implementeer ’n noodplan in geval van ’n noodsituasie of groot insident wat mag plaasvind
• Doen inspeksies en ondersoek geboue, konstruksieterreine, kontrakteurs, persele of ander besette persele en/of oop ruimtes en/of openbare fasiliteite om die nakoming van verordeninge en statutêre wetgewing te bepaal
• Verwerk alle korrespondensie rakende gesondheid en veiligheid deur te lees, navorsing te doen en nodige ondersoeke uit te voer
• Adviseer werknemers oor veiligheidskwessies en spreek alle klagtes aan
• Doen verslag oor beroepsgesondheid en veiligheids-verwante aktiwiteite
• Gee ’n uiteensetting van die Kaapse Wynland Distriksmunisipaliteit se verwagtinge van diensverskaffers/kontrakteurs ten opsigte van beroepsgesondheids- en veiligheidsverpligtinge
• Doen opleidingskursusse soos en wanneer nodig
• Doeltreffende hantering van eise vir werknemersvergoeding ten opsigte van beroepsbeserings
Vereistes:
• Nasionale Diploma (NKR 6)
• Geregistreer en in goeie aansien wees by die Suid-Afrikaanse Raad vir Projek- en Konstruksiebestuursberoepe (SACPCMP) as ’n Konstruksie-gesondheids- en veiligheidsbeampte (CHSO)
• Drie (3) jaar toepaslike ervaring, insluitend ervaring in padkonstruksie
• Geldige Kode B-rybewys
• Grondige kennis van toepaslike wetgewing en beleide
• Uitstekende mondelinge en verslagskryfvaardighede
• Uitstekende kommunikasievaardighede in ten minste twee van die drie tale van die Wes-Kaap Provinsie
• Rekenaargeletterdheid
• Goeie interpersoonlike vaardighede
• Bereidwilligheid om oortyd te werk en te reis
• Vermoë om onafhanklik en as deel van ’n span te werk
• Diskresie en respek vir vertroulikheid en privaatheid
