Job Purpose
• Teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
• Conduct research and supervise postgraduate students.
• Engage in community projects and project consultancy work.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements – Lecturer
• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Civil Engineering.
• At least two (2) years’ higher education academic experience or relevant industrial experience at the appropriate senior level.
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA):
-Preference will be given to registered applicants.
-If not registered, registration within 12 months of employment will be a condition of appointment.
Minimum Requirements – Senior Lecturer
• A Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Civil Engineering.
• At least four (4) years’ higher education academic experience or relevant industrial experience at the appropriate senior level
• Demonstrable ability to carry out research as evidenced by a publication in accredited journals.
• Track record of successful postgraduate supervision.
• Evidence of appropriate academic and research leadership
- Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
-Preference will be given to registered applicants.

LECTURER- AGRICULTURE (6 MONTHS FIXED CONTRACT)

Job Purpose
The Department of Agriculture situated on the Wellington Campus of CPUT invites applicants for a 6-month fixed contract lecturer position in Fruit Production, to provide teaching relief for a permanently appointed academic going on study leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for subject coordination and administration, learning and teaching, assessing outcomes and mark administration, and providing student support on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. S/he will be lecturing Fruit Production on Diploma level (NQF6) and assessing agricultural production related projects of students placed in crop-related industries (NQF6) while also teaching postharvest quality management principles in the Advanced Diploma qualification (NQF 7). S/he may be also involved in supervision of postgraduate diploma (NQF 8) students.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in agriculture with specialization in Fruit Production, Crop Production, or Postharvest Management of Agricultural Produce or any closely related discipline in line with the job requirements detailed above.
- Base degree: BSc Agric, or equivalent qualification (Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours) in Fruit Production, Crop Production or Horticulture (fruit production).
- At least 2 years’ relevant working experience, of which at least one year must be teaching at a higher education institution.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Teach and assess fruit production related subjects up to NQF level 8 in the department. Subjects may include Fruit Production 2B (NQF 6) Agricultural Production (NQF 6) Production Systems Management (NQF 6) Principles of postharvest quality management, imbedded in Agronomy (NQF 7) Applied Integrated Research Project (NQF 8)
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
- Monitor and assess students placed in industry (workplace-based learning)
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
Competencies
Competence in teaching the subjects listed previously (experience in online teaching will be an advantage)
Knowledge and experience of theory and application of fruit production discipline from the orchards to postharvest management practices.
