ABOUT THE JOB:
The Manager holds the responsibility for operational planning and management of a domain including aspects such as management of employees and budgets. This job is critical to the strategic position of Alkantpan Test Range and its relationship with its clients and own personnel by ensuring that the strategic goals and objectives of Alkantpan Test Range are achieved according to the agreed upon milestones.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Essential: Grade 12
- Essential: BTech Degree in Explosives Technology or Mechanical Engineering degree
- Added advantage: Post graduate degree in Business Management
- Added advantage: ISO 17020 certification as Approved Inspection Authority Manager and Technical Signatory will be an advantage.
- Essential: 6 – 8 years’ experience in Ballistics testing on large scale with various types of weapons ammunitions for both local and international clients which must include experience on supervisory/team leader level
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREA
The incumbent will be responsible to perform the following functions but not limited to;
- To analyse and interpret all technical requirements from internal and external stakeholders/clients to ensure accurate quotations and test planning is achieved.
- To manage and control the safe and accurate conducting of all foreign tests and ensure that data is captured and recorded correctly to allow the final product of Alkantpan to be accurate and correct as data report to the client.
- To check and confirm accuracy of data reports before being despatched to clients.
- Manage the Alkantpan Marketing and Stakeholder Strategy.
- Manage all Foreign technical requests and liaise with all foreign clients
- Manage all Operational Safety aspects at Alkantpan Test Range as appointed by the DoEL.
- Manage the ISO 17020 Inspection Body and its Technical Signatories.
- Manage the overall Alkantpan Risk Management plan.
- Manage Risk Assessments for all explosive related actions.
- To maintain a safe record of all explosive related activities at Alkantpan in accordance with the Explosives Act and as appointed by the DoEL by ensuring all activities are conducted within a safe environment and with safe actions.
- To manage the Alkantpan Approved Inspection Authority and its technical signatories to ensure compliance with the ISO 17020 requirements, Risk Assessments as well as training
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
- Ballistic Tests on large scale for various types of weapons and ammunition and the conducting of such tests inclusive of planning and execution for both national and international clients
- All measurements and techniques used in measurements for Ballistics tests.
- Safety planning for all explosive related issues WRT tests of ammunition and weapons
- Technical interpretation of client specifications and planning of tests accordingly
- Ballistic knowledge of internal and external ballistics
- Financial Management and planning
- Problem solving techniques with regard to clients as well as personnel
- Thorough knowledge of the total service of Alkantpan to enable proper marketing and stakeholder engagement
- Research methodologies with regard to International Standards for tests
- Knowledge of the legal compliance for imports and exports of ordnance
- Knowledge of SHE regulations
- Thorough knowledge of client ammunition and systems to enable understanding of requirements and planning of tests
