PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of Occupational Health Practitioner is for monitoring the health, well-being and safety of the employees, serves as a health coach and design health promotion programs to encourage employees to live healthier lives.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Responsible for Occupational Health Care that entails but not limited to medical surveillance for Armscor employees which includes pre-employment, periodic, transfer and exit medicals.

- Responsible for the clinic outreach service at Gerotek and Protechnik (Armscor Pretoria branches) which entails but not limited to:
- Do their medical surveillance;
- Do spot health education and referrals to Hospitals and Specialists
- Respond to emergencies in Armscor building, assess diagnose, stabilised and refer patient for further medical management.
- Conduct Primary Health Care which entails but not limited to do:
- Educate and advice employees on Health matters;
- Manage minor ailments and refer when necessary
- Prepare and issue medical travel bags for Armscor employees who going overseas.
- Participate and contribute to implement the Armscor Wellness program. This entails:
- HIV Counselling and Testing;
- Monitoring of chronic patients;
- Health Education;
- Biological Monitoring e.g. Executive Medicals;
- Implement Awareness Campaigns.
- Store and dispose clinic refuse and waste in accordance to prescribed regulations.
- Order emergency medicine, do stock taking of supplies and record in accordance to prescribed regulations.
- Accurate and timeously upkeep of patient files and registers.
- Liaise internally with other departments with regard to clinic accounts, requisitions and other relevant services and externally with The Department of Health and other service providers who contribute to efficient running of the clinic.
- Keep abreast with the development in the field of Occupational Health and implementation thereof by: Attending SASOHN conferences, doing refresher courses in Spirometry, Vision and Audio etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in General Nursing
- B Tech Occupational Health Nursing
- Primary Health Care will be an advantage
- Degree in Nursing Management will be an advantage
- Dispensing Licence
TECHNICAL / LEGAL CERTIFICATION / PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION:

- Consult widely with relevant stakeholder to ensure that this plan is current and updated on a regular basis to manage and control technology development in the DOD.
- Consult with Acquisition Senior Managers to select Programme Managers (APMs) to execute the technology acquisition tasks (SM’s task)
- Advise the APM on the process and client’s requirements for technology know-how and ensure that the portfolio of projects remain on track (process management).
- Identification & data management of IP (Intellectual Property) on technology development projects to ensure the protection of the DOD’s Intellectual Property (IP).
- Share lessons learnt by documenting in reports and participating in forums were lessons learnt are shared (feedback sessions e.g. shows and tell).
- Suggest areas of co-operation concerning research areas where this could be the optimum solution due to financial constraints or other factors.
- Participate in technical steering committees, technology management committees and other selected forums to influence the direction of research programmes (Technology Strategy Consultation).
- Manage the budgets used for technology purchases, including Capital Projects Funds, grants, building projects, and other funds and maintain clear records for accountability and auditing purposes (portfolio budget management).
