SUPERVISOR RIGGING ANDSCAFFOLDING

Armscor Dockyard, Site and Facilities Services Division has a vacancy fora Supervisor Rigging and Scaffolding. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide supervisory management of the rigging artisans, slingers and scaffolders within the Site and Facilities division. To plan, schedule and manage rigging and scaffolding services to the fleet of the South African Navy, its various shore establishments, visiting and commercial vessels and Armscor Dockyard.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- To perform daily toolbox talks with the staff and to communicate all relevant work for the day.
- To perform resource planning and prioritization of tasks for the staff
- To manage and report on productivity and effectiveness of the staff.
- To manage and monitor the availability of equipment.
- To manage the spares and tools required.
- To plan lead and manage small projects in the section.
- Assist the section manager with developing long-term plans to improve the reliability and availability of rigging and scaffolding services &equipment.
- Monitor progress of critical activities, identify possible problems and take action to correct these.
- Ensure adherence to the Preventative maintenance system by ensuring that all job cards are completed timeously.
- Mange the chain blocks and slings stores in the rigging workshop and track usage and availability.
- Provide support to SA Navy where feasible.
- Liaise with the SA NAVY to execute on maintenance tasks.
- Supporting internal and external departmental supervisors when necessary.
- Perform on standby and callout duties when required.
- Any additional tasks required by the section manager.
- Plan and schedule manufacturing of safety nets, pilot ladders, berthing ropes, cargo nets, docking ropes, docking wires the stock requirements.
- Installation and maintenance of the wire ropes on the synchrolift.
- Maintains all scaffolding equipment structurally with the highest standard and carry out preventative maintenance on these equipment/s.
- Plan and schedule all scaffolding requests and current work activity.
- Execute scaffolding statutory checks and filing to be accessible forauditing
- Planning resources to assist with the warping in of vessels on both the dry dock and the synchrolift.
- Assist the docking team with movement of vessels.
- Assist with wire rope and pulley configurations for the movement of vessels.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team when performing functional tests and system performance measurements.
- Manage the integration of different sub-systems to achieve successful system trials and planned scenarios.
- Diagnose origin of equipment failures by utilising technical manuals, circuit diagrams, data manuals and industry specialists.
- Benchmark maintenance and docking and rigging procedures, according to industry standards and implement accordingly.
- Legal Appointment as 2.7 for docking facilities
- Assist GMR2.1 with all legislative compliance for the section
QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Trade Certificate in Rigging endorsed by the Department of Labor or applicable SETA
- Marine experience would be advantageous.
SPECIAL PROFICIENCY/SKILLS:
- Must be willing to work overtime/shifts
- Knowledge of onshore port equipment.
- Knowledge of preservation and ship terminology.
- Knowledge of the Occupational, Health and Safety Act,
- MS Window & Office Suite knowledge.
- ISO 9001:2008 Theory & practice.
- Compliance to SANS 10085-1 -Scaffolding requirements.
- Knowledge of 5S Standards
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to work on a scaffold, cherry picker or man-basket.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
- To manage the delivery of communication, sensors, and weapons engineering services, including surveys, testing, diagnostics, as well as the maintenance and repair of marine vessels and their associated weapons equipment.
- Utilize reverse engineering capabilities to effectively tackle spare parts needs arising from obsolescence.
- Utilize applicable military standards, such as MIL and STANAG, to ensure the verification and validation of weapon systems following maintenance.
- Sustain a quality management system that ensures uniformity, customer contentment, and traceability.
- Expand the Section’s scope by enhancing its capabilities with the aim of addressing all the needs of the client.
- Estimate, plan, schedule, direct and control resources, work and projects within the section.
- Manage section resources for optimum performance to meet or exceed set targets in terms of Safety, Health and Environment, Maintenance and Asset Management, Project Management and Budgets.
- Compile and review work process documentation, specifications and practices to ensure SHERQ and legislative compliance.
- Evaluating Systems performance against set standards and specifications as well as initiating corrective, preventative and proactive measures for optimum performance.
- Formulate personnel development plans to meet current and future needs.
- Develop section plans in line with the overall business plan.
- Perform engineering investigations and implement technological processes and upgrades.
- Leading, supporting and motivating personnel within the LRA and company policy framework.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B-Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electronics/Electrical)
- Project Management Qualification will be an added advantage
- Registration with ECSA will be an added advantage
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in managing weapon systems throughout their entire product lifecycle, including development, integration, verification, validation, operation, and maintenance
- Minimum 3 years project management experience in an industrial, marine or related engineering environment.
- Minimum 2 years management experience.
SPECIAL PROFICIENCY/SKILLS
- Maintenance Management skills.
- Quality orientated with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong research and report writing skills.
- Engineering documentation interpretation and development skills e.g., Engineering Drawings.

Research and Development Business Unit has a vacancy for a Senior Training Facilitator at Gerotek Test Facilities. Applications are invited from people who meet the qualification and experience requirements below:
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Is to ensure smooth and effective coordination, development and delivery of advance driver and other related training within Gerotek Test Facilities,as well as to ensure quality and integrity of service offering to clients.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Developing driver training and other related learning programmes in support of Gerotek’s service offering.
- Conduct research, develop and/or update learning programmes and learning material.
- Contribute to the divisional income by supporting the Manager to realise potential business.
- Present driver training courses and assess learners in line with approved assessment criteria.
- Supervision of facilitators involved in training on and off site.
- Liaise with clients’ course coordinators and with the relevant SETAs to maintain good relationships.
- Keep an up-to-date register of all Gerotek Training’s assets, including maintenance of training equipment.
- Control the issuance and return of all the training equipment to the training facilitators.
- Conduct assessment and / or moderation of all training programmes presented at Gerotek.
- Keep abreast with the developments within the advanced driving education and training environments.
- Ensure all training programmes comply with SHEQ requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Occupational Directed Education and Training Development Practitioner (ODETDP) – NQF Level 5, or
- A relevant National Diploma (preferably in Human Resources Development)
TECHNICAL / LEGAL CERTIFICATE / PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION
- SETA Accredited Advanced Driving Certificate
- Registration with relevant SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) as: An Assessor, and/or
- A Moderator
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in the ETD environment
- At least 3 years’ experience in the advanced driver training industry

SHIFT LEADER: PHYSICAL SECURITY

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Ensure and render an effective, full-time, cost- effective in-house security service, so as to prevent losses and to protect Armscor assets, personnel and visitors through the utilization, work allocation and supervision of Security Officers during his/her shift.
CRICTICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS
Handling physical security, which entails:
- Enforcement of physical security by applying security policy and procedures
- Correct placing of shift members at allocated security points.
- Conducting inspections at security points to make sure that all equipment is operating effectively.
- Investigating incidents that occurred during the shift and reporting these to the Manager: Physical Security.
- Issuing access cards and compiling access (T&A) reports.
Handling electronic security, which entails:
- Monitoring all systems in the building control Centre
- Doing observation from the control room with the electronic systems available with a view to crime prevention
- Handling all fire alarms, respond and investigating them and reporting to the Manager: Physical Security
- Handling all building system alarms and reporting to the Manager: Physical Security
- Updating all security-related registers in the building control centre
- Managing the fleet and administrative duties including log sheets
Managing and handling protection officer during the shift, which entails:
- Placing protection officers so that physical security is effectively enforced
- Visiting protection officers on point duty ensure effective protection
- Ensuring proper communication between protection officers
Performing administrative functions related to physical security, which entails:
- Compiling the monthly shift roster and presenting it to the Manager: Physical Security
- Completing the on-duty and shift-placement registers
- Handling the leave of protection officers on his shift
- Conducting daily performance measurement of security officers, with a monthly report to the Manager: Physical Security
- Handling security registers in respect of the management of his shift.
QUALIFICATION
- Grade 12
- Grade A (PSIRA)
- Security Programme.
- Code B driving license (Advance Driving Course will be an added advantage)
- The National Key Point will be an added advantage
