PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Head of Business Development and Industry Support will be responsible for the management of strategic and operational business development initiatives.  Develop and implement business development strategies and plans to drive increased income, and business growth for Armscor and the South African Defence Industry (SADI).

Strategic Responsibilities
  • Contribute to business growth by formulating and implementing business development and industry support strategy.
  • Develop and implement the medium and long-term strategic objectives and business plans aligned to corporate strategies and goals.
  • Develop and implement the annual business development and industry support targets and operational budget to achieve the set objectives.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships to grow business.
  • Evaluate business growth effectiveness.
 
Functional Responsibilities
  • Implement business development initiatives to generate revenue for Armscor and the SADI.
  • Ensure business growth through planning, directing, coordinating and managing business development and industry support plans to ensure timeous delivery and achievement of agreed targets.
  • Collaborate with other business units to optimally position Armscor’s capabilities and brand to local and international markets in order to realise business and partnerships.
  • Conduct macro-environmental analysis to identify new business opportunities in existing and new markets both in the defence and commercial sectors.
  • Commission market research for analysis and understanding trends in the defence environment; and identify new business opportunities flowing from the research outcome.
  • Ensure that all client business proposals are of the highest possible quality and that risk is assessed and mitigated.
  • Ensure that the Division’s resources are capacitated to successful deliver business development and industry support goals.

  • Implement strategies and initiatives that support industry growth and development in the local and export markets.
  • Implement business development initiatives to generate new business for Armscor and the SADI.
  • Drive increased sales revenue and profit to achieve business growth across the organisation and industry capabilities.
  • Identify and prioritise potential business opportunities and evaluating potential investments.

Relationship Management and Industry Support
  • Institute a relationship-based client focused philosophy aimed at inculcating business oriented culture intended at delivering Armscor value proposition to clients; effectively, efficiently & economically.
  • Collaborate with other business units to optimally position Armscor’s capabilities and brand to local and international markets in order to realise business and partnerships.
  • Build business relationships with current and potential clients.
  • Build, maintain and enhance relationships with key stakeholders, i.e. Government departments & institutions, Military Attaches & Advisory Corp, event’s organisers and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies aimed at supporting and developing SMMEs and designated group – military veterans, youth, women and people with disabilities – to promote inclusive economic participation.
  • Organise and coordinate Armscor and SADI participation, thus exposing their capabilities at local and international marketing platforms.
 
Efficiencies & Effectiveness
  • Develop and streamline business development policies, processes and procedures to realise efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement risk management plan.
  • Required to carry out the expected outputs within the allocated budget. Where possible achieve savings without compromising on the expected outputs.

Education Requirements
  • A Post-graduate Degree in Business Management, Financial Management, Commerce or Engineering

  • Should have experience in collaborating with other executives
  • Extensive experience in the business development environment

INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

Research & Development Department has a vacancy for an Instrumentation Technician at the Alkantpan Test Range, located near Prieska in the Northern Cape. Applications are invited from people who meet the qualification and experience requirements below.
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of this job is to do ballistic measurements during tests, and to maintain electronic measurement systems.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Repair and maintain electronic systems (e.g. measurement systems, communication infrastructure, cables, etc.)
  • Ensure conformance to the Business Management Systems (e.g. SHE, Quality, etc.)
  • Measurement of ballistic parameters during test and evaluation of ordnance (weapon systems and ammunition products).
  • Recording and analysis of less complex tests measurements (e.g. muzzle velocity and pressure measurement) and submit as an input to the test report.
  • Conduct electronic measurements during tests (e.g. muzzle velocity, tracking radar, pressure measurement, and high speed video and video equipment).
  • Plan and do preventative maintenance and calibration on electronic measurement systems under supervision.
  • Perform data analysis.
  • Assist in maintaining IT Infrastructure.
  • To undertake professional development activities to maintain and extent competence.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12
  • National Diploma Electronics / N6
  • Certificate in Electronics
 
Experience:
  • 3 – 4 years’ relevant working experience

TECHNICAL OFFICER: AMMUNITION

Research and Development Department has a vacancy for a Technical Officer: Ammunition at the Alkantpan Test Range, located near Prieska in the Northern Cape. Applications are invited from people who meet the qualification and experience requirements below.
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To receive, store, issue, transport, assemble, and condition ammunition according to test specifications and regulatory requirements.  Often work in harsh conditions.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Receive and dispatch ammunition to the correct test point at the right time.
  • Load and transport ammunition/explosives in accordance to explosive regulations.
  • To assemble ammunition as per client specification.
  • To condition ammunition as per client specification to simulate different climatic conditions.
  • Monitor conditioning chambers during day time and at set intervals, and report any malfunctions to Electrical Maintenance division.
  • Record and report data (e.g. mass, lot numbers, temperatures, etc.) to the Test Manager.
  • Mop-up of firing site after test.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Qualification:
  • Grade 12 with mathematics literacy.
  • Driver’s license – Code B.
  • PRDP will be an added advantage.
 
Experience:
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience as Technical Assistant / Technical Officer-in-Training

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To identify, deploy and manages the implementation of the appropriate technology to increase information accessibility and integrated systems management; develop strategy for implementation of information technology while ensuring optimisation of existing systems and applications.  The CIO must anticipate trends in the market with regard to technology and ensure that the business navigates these trends through providing expert guidance and proper strategic IT planning that is aligned with corporate strategy of Armscor.
 
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
The CIO is responsible for the total Information and Communication Technology operational function and is expected to:
  • Ensure that all products, systems and services supplied to ARMSCOR clients are fit for the purpose it is intended for, and to assure the quality of all new developments, systems or system designs.
  • The CITO is responsible for maintaining the integrity of all electronic information and records.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability and security of Information Communication Technology infrastructure, applications and services.
  • Define, update and implement the IT strategy. Ensure an Information and Communication Technology and Information Management strategy that is aligned with ARMSCOR business strategy.
  • Plan and manage strategic IT Initiatives.
  • The CITO is accountable for leading the information and data integrity of the company, for all the information technology functions. This tasks includes computer system operations, help desks, data centres, computer programme development, technical service centre, computer system operations and communication networks.
  • Lead and guide (senior) managers in ICT Solutions, ICT DevOps, Knowledge, Records and Information Management (KRIM), and ICT Governance divisions.
  • Run risk assessments, testing data processing systems and designing solutions.
  • Account for the implementation and operational delivery of information security
  • Create and implement technology strategies.
  • Align company technology resources with organisation’s short and long-terms goals.

QUALIFICATION
•     Masters Degree in Computer Science

EXPERIENCE
     At least 12 years post qualification experience within both information and technology management environment
•     At least five years’ experience operating on a senior managerial level
•     Five years’ experience in formulating and managing a technology strategy
•     Demonstrable experience in managing the business technology architecture
•     Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and visionary overall business leadership
 
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
     Understanding of Enterprise Architecture
