The ARC- Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC– OVR) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Pretoria:
 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN – BACTERIOLOGY LABORATORY
SALARY R247 537 pa – R371 307 pa
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Assist in Development and validation of analytical methods, specifically in the fields of LC-MS-MS and GC-MS.
 Plan and execute routine analytical testing of biological samples.
 Evaluation and interpretation of technical data generated.
 Troubleshooting of technical problems.
 Assist with research projects.
 Contribute to scientific output (conferences, scientific publications, popular articles).
 Improving/Implementing ISO 17025 quality requirements within the laboratory.
 
Requirements:
 National Diploma or B-Tech degree in Chemistry.
 BSc in chemistry will be an added advantage.
 At least three years’ experience in a chromatography laboratory
 Fundamental knowledge of chromatography (LC and GC) as well as Mass Spectroscopy is essential.
 Experience in an accredited laboratory will be an advantage.
 Ability to work under pressure to ensure that samples are processed as required.
 Ability to interpret analytical data and do troubleshooting
 Good interpersonal and communication skills
 Excellent knowledge of Quality Management (ISO 17025).

ICT ENTERPRISE ARCHITECT
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Management of high-level stakeholder needs and expectations in a complex research and development operating environment,
 Responsible for the definition, design and interpretation of technical architecture artefacts taken from user requirements specifications to create an enterprise-wide solutions architecture that meet business requirements,
 Define the target architectures, and the roadmaps and timescales to ensure the most effective use of technology and digital services across the ARC whilst delivering the required business outcomes,
 Act as design authority and provide an assurance role, ensuring that all architecture activities and deliverables (in-house and external outsourced) are produced to a high quality and are consistent with To take a lead role in the full life cycle delivery of the technical solutions for business projects from initial concept, requirements gathering, specification, design, delivery, acceptance to operational support,
 Develop technology strategies roadmaps and ARC wide technology investment planning,
 Develop and optimise the application, networking, hardware landscape for the ARC,
 Manage the appropriate governance forums to ensure the agreement and maintenance of the overall Enterprise Architecture of the ARC and ensure that the process delivers strategic imperatives,
 Develop and review the cloud, data and digital transformation journey roadmap for the ARC,
 Work closely with other organisational divisions and staff in identifying opportunities for performance and workplace continuous improvement as appropriate,
 Take a leading role in development and implementation of the ICT Business Continuity, Change and Pro-cess Improvement,
 Liaison with other government agencies and other ICT industry on behalf of the ARC.
 
Requirements:
 Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Management or other relevant discipline;
 Extensive practical experience in Enterprise / Solutions Architecture,
 5-10 years’ experience within ICT Architecture
 Certified with a recognised Enterprise Architecture Framework (i.e. TOGAF, etc.),
 Practical understanding ICT Governance (ITIL, CoBIT, etc.) and Networking / Infrastructure,
 Strong leadership ability with highly developed communication, negotiation and delegation skills.

RESEARCHER: CROP PROTECTION (PATHOLOGY)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Initiates, manages and contributes towards national projects,
 Identifies the need for human resources in projects and manages the allocated resources,
 Is accountable for compiling and managing the project budget,
 Actively sources new national research opportunities and writes proposals,
 Plans and co-ordinates research with single or multi-disciplinary team,

Requirements:
 PhD in plant pathology - preferable epidemiology/ fungal molecular biology and genetics / plant biochemistry or alternatively MSc with 5 years’ work experience with extensive publications,
 Experience in epidemiology, molecular biology and plant biochemistry in grain crops,
 National scientific recognition will be an added advantage,
 Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.

SENIOR RESEARCHER: PLANT GENOMICS (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Lead research programs that will undertake support and research activities in areas such as statistical and structural genomics, next generation sequencing, transcriptomics, quantitative and association genetics and molecular modelling in agricultural plants within the mandate of the ARC,
 Collaborate and interact with research teams across ARC to ensure broad application of genomics and statistical genomics tools in crop research programs of the ARC,

QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Strategic management and direction of Quality management,
 Thorough Knowledge of Laboratory QMS and ISO/IEC Standard 17025:2017, DALRRD and OIE requirements,
 Providing strategic direction for risk management of the organisation,
 Providing strategic direction for laboratory biosafety and biosecurity management,
 Experienced in interpretation of data analysis,
 Compiles detailed quarterly and yearly performance reports with information receive from Officers as well as reports for external stakeholders,
 Knowledge of and compiles WOAH annual reference laboratory reports after consultation with laboratory experts,
 Identify and arrange workshops, in-house training or courses for internal and external clients,
 Successful mentoring/ supervision of Quality Assurance Officers,
 Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures in collaboration with OHS Officer,
 Responsible for the budget that includes the annual SANAS fees, proficiency testing schemes, etc,
 Participation in project planning and training activities relating to the field of expertise,
 Handling of internal and/or external enquiries and communicating with all stakeholders and suppliers,

Requirements:
 MSc in Quality Assurance Management or related field,
 Three to five years of experience in related field required with supervisory experience,

Key Performance Areas:
 Prepare and process samples received in accordance with the laboratory’s SOP,
 Isolation and identification of bacteria using standard laboratory procedure,
 Examination of culture to identify significant bacteria that are known to cause disease within the context provided by the case history,
 Typing of Salmonella species, Pasterurella, Klebsiella and other organism,
 Maintain culture for future use,
 Perform diagnostic administrative tasks and stock control,
 Execute duties required by the quality system (ISO 17025).
 
Requirements:
 National Diploma or B-Tech degree: Veterinary Technology,
