The ARC-Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC-OVR) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Onderstepoort, Pretoria: 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: GENERAL BACTERIOLOGY X2 
(3-YEARS’ FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• To render a quality analytical/diagnostic service by performing general bacteriological tests on veterinary samples in accordance with the requirements of ISO 22000 and ISO 7218. 
• Performing bacterial detection and enumeration tests in feed and food samples. 
• Receiving and recording of samples details in record books and correctly storing samples. 
• Registration of samples. 
• Recording results in the appropriate results books and LabWare system. 
• Assisting in the improvement and development of new test methods in collaboration with the Head of Laboratories. 
• Providing research support by giving project inputs regarding technical details and carrying out assigned technical tasks. 
 
Requirements: 
• National Diploma/ B-Tech/BSc in Microbiology, Food Science, or related fields. 
• Knowledge of veterinary bacterial pathogens and diseases. 
• Good interpersonal skills. 
• A driver’s licence will be an added advantage.

ARTISAN: FITTER AND TURNER: TAD 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Responsible for mechanical maintenance of plant machinery. 
• Manufacturing of parts as per drawings/samples on a centre lathe/ milling machine. 
 
Requirements: 
• N4 Mechanical Certificate. 
• Mechanical/Fitter and Turner Trade Test. 
• Senior Certificate. 
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience. 
• Pipe fitting with refrigeration knowledge. 
• Valid driver’s license will be an added advantage. 
• Good verbal and written communication skills. 
• Basic computer skills.

The ARC-Plant Health and Protection seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Roodeplaat: 
RESEARCHER: ENTOMOLOGY/ACAROLOGY X 2 
(3 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Plan and undertake research on the biosystematics and diagnostics of Lepidoptera, Hemiptera or Acari, with a good understanding of insect or mite/host interactions. 
 Successfully managing and implementing research projects in either of these fields. 
 Experience in molecular biology. 
 Collections management, data-base upkeep and curation. 
 Actively source research and funding opportunities. 
 Disseminate research results as scientific peer reviewed publications, congress presentations popular articles and client reports. 
 Participate in outreach activities. 
 Mentorship of post graduate students and presentation of courses. 
 
Requirements: 
 A PhD or MSc with 5 years’ relevant work experience in Entomology or Acarology.
 SACNASP registration and/or NRF rating. 
 Proven track record of successful proposal writing. 
 Proven track record of successful completion of applied field research projects. 
 Ability to work in cross-cutting and inter-disciplinary teams. 
 Willingness to travel. 
 Substantial record of relevant scientific publications. 
 A Valid Code B or EB driver’s license.
