AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC-Animal Production seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic persons to the following positions at Irene, Pretoria:
QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER – QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
Key Performance Areas:
- Implement, maintain, and improve the Quality Management System to ensure continued accreditation to ISO 17025: 201.
- Prepare and revise PT plans for the Analytical Services (Chemistry and Microbiology).
- Demonstrate implementation of QMS during third-party assessments and coordinate clearance of non-conformances during the assessment.
- Provide guidance to the laboratories in the Analytical Services sections on the requirements of the management system and ISO/IEC 17025 through consultation and training.
- Ensure calibration and servicing of equipment.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor internal audits.
- Schedule and take minutes of management review meetings.
- Compile and analyse trends of customer complaints for all the laboratories.
- Plan and coordinate inter-laboratory and proficiency testing.
Requirements:
- BSc\ BTech, National Diploma in Quality Management or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in quality management system/s.
- Knowledge and experience in ISO17025: 2017.
- Knowledge of SANAS documentation and requirements.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- A valid SA driver’s license.
- Skilled to work as part of the team as well as independently.
- The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.

RESEARCH TECHNICIAN-ANIMAL BREEDING AND GENETICS
Key Performance Areas:
- Conduct routine DNA profiling services.
- Properly collect, process and capture data for DNA Profiling and Biobanking.
- Provide technical support to research in molecular genetics.
- General laboratory maintenance and safety.
- Assist with administrative duties of the laboratory (invoicing, procurement of research consumables and equipment.
- Adherence to financial administrative controls.
- Maintain Animal breeding and genetics CAPEX items to ensure accuracy and quality of experimental results.
- Participate in technology transfer services through farmers days, advisory services, and workshops.
- Assist in marketing of genetics laboratory services.
- Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities.
- Reviewing and updating Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure compliance to Laboratory Safety Programme.
- Adheres to quality standards.
- Comply to all occupational health and safety regulations.
Requirements:
- BSc. Degree or Diploma in Animal Science/Genetics, or equivalent with 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and to collaborate with external partners.
- Ability to organize, prioritise and work systematically.
- The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience in ISO 17025 and work experience in an accredited laboratory will be an advantage.
- Valid SA driver’s license will be an advantage.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT - MILK RECORDING
Key Performance Areas:
- Data evaluation and preparation for uploading on INTERGIS.
- Keeping of data flow registers.
- Keeping the participant address database up to date.
- Keeping records of participants invoiced.
- Capturing of data on different platforms.
- Handling of Subsistence & Travel claims, Permissions to Travel and Subsistence & Travel Advances received from colleagues.
- Keeping in line with Occupational Health and Safety requirements of the organization.
Requirements:
- A Grade 12 certificate.
- Grade 10 plus 8 years relevant experience.
- 3 years working experience.
- High degree of integrity and tact to handle sensitive and classified information.
- Good Interpersonal relation.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Knowledge of administrative processes.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Knowledge and experience of the IRIS and INTERGIS program will be an added advantage.
