Strategic Planning and Monitoring

Job Requirements
- A PhD’s Degree in Agriculture or Science.
- Postgraduate degree in Business Management /MBA/MBL will be an added advantage.

- Good insight into the operations of different business units within the organisation.

- Conducts research in the field of vegetable genomics and molecular breeding, including DNA marker technologies, to support breeding programmes.
- Initiates, designs, implements and manages new and contribute to existing research projects.
- Project management and coordination entails planning research, equipment and materials, human resources, financial, risk management and mitigation, monitoring, evaluation and close-out reporting.
- Keeps the division abreast with new developments on molecular breeding by reviewing new publications & research reports.

Job Requirements
- PhD in Plant Genomics, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding or related field.
- Experience in genomics of potatoes/sweet potatoes will be an added advantage.
- Advanced computer literacy.
- Ability to render diagnostic, technical and other services at national level.
- Research planning and management of research projects (Genomics): At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant scientific research environment, post MSc with a national record of accomplishment on the level of a researcher.
- Collaboration: Record of building national and international partnerships and networks. The researchers work under guidance and with support of seniors.
- Initiation, planning and execution of Genomics research projects.
- Minimum 3-5 peer reviewed publications or number of publications should be equivalent to what was required from master’s and PhD level for their field respectively.
- Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
- Proven record of accomplishment for generating external income for projects in line with requirements on master’s and PhD level. In this respect proven record of writing of proposals as part of master's and PhD studies.
- Proven record of participating as speaker nationally as part of master's and PhD level. Must be able to show competence in presenting research results.
- Proven record for financial management of projects.
- Proven track record of mentoring and supervising/supervising other researchers and students.

The ARC (Agricultural Research Council) seeks to appoint 3 independent, suitably qualified persons with knowledge of, inter alia, audit, finance, supply chain management, law, human resources, investigations, risk management, corporate governance and information technology, as well as Agricultural Sciences to serve on the Audit & Risk Committee.
Key performance areas:
- Oversight on internal control environment, including processes and systems for financial reporting.
- Oversight on the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with the PFMA and related Treasury Regulations, including the applicable accounting framework.
- Oversight on Audit processes (Internal Audit and External Audit).
- Oversight on Asset Portfolio Management.

Job Requirements
- A B Com or B Compt. Degree in Financial Accounting or Auditing, a Degree in Economics or a Degree in Law.
- A minimum of 8 years Executive experience and 5 years’ experience in the Audit and Risk Committee, preferably in a public institution is required.
- The following will be added advantage: A Master’s Degree or Higher Degree(s) in any of the above as well as registration with relevant professional bodies such as SAICA, IIA, IRMSA, LPC.
- A minimum of eight (8) years management experience in Risk/Audit/ Financial/Information Technology/Compliance/Legal environment.
- Three reference letters from previous and current Risk or Audit Committees.
- Analytical reasoning abilities.
- Good communication skills; and understanding of the relevant regulatory frameworks. Preference will be given to Chartered Accountants, Advocates, Attorneys, Risk Management or Compliance Officers.
