AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Irene, Pretoria:
FACILITIES OFFICER (RE-ADVERT)
Key Performance Areas:
• Manage office space planning according to needs of end users.
• Liaise with scientists and researchers regarding their strategic needs and requirements within the section.
• Carry out improvement and maintenance of the building, heavy machinery, farm equipment and other equipment such as air conditioner, graders, tractors and frontend diggers and laboratory equipment.
• Provide AP Facilities budget inputs and adhere to the allocated budget.
• Ensure compliance with the requirements of Occupational health and safety Act and relevant regulations and that a culture of safety is engendered throughout the Campus.
• Train personnel to ensure compliance and product optimisation.
• Ensure and maintain good housekeeping, equipment inspections and testing including facility detection.
• Identify redundant facilities to use such to raise external income.
• Supervise and manage technical, transport and asset staff within the section.
• Implementation and awareness drives and exercise all forms of security to ensure a safe and risk-free working environment for all.
• Assist in the establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures for asset and acquisition, recording, control and disposal.
• Manage the fleet and all aspects related to transport for the campus.
• Undertake effective asset management through the alignment of policies to ensure optimal utilisation, longevity, security and safety of assets.
• Management of lease agreement and contract i.e., cleaning, security, plumbing, electrical and cooling & registration service etc.
• Ensure payments of service rendered are paid timeously within the stipulated turnaround period of 30 days.
• Ensure compliance with finance policies and regulations i.e. PMFA, National Treasury Regulation etc.
• Undertake ongoing farm inspections across Irene Campus and Outstations pertaining to facilities matters.
• Facilitate the procurement of facilities items and partake in the acquisition of Capital projects or any adhoc requests.
Requirements:
• A National Diploma in Facilities, Business, Property, Management or equivalent qualification within built/facilities environment.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Facilities Management.
• Extensive knowledge of hard/technical and soft services.
• Knowledge of Supply Chain, Project & Contract Management i.e., management of cleaning, security services etc.
• Extensive knowledge and application of Health and Safety Regulation.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suites.
• Extensive and knowledge of security and assets management.
• Good communication, problem solving, ability to handle pressure, planning and organisational skills.
• A valid South African driver’s licence.
• People, budget and business management skills.

Competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and the stature of the position. The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance and preference will be given to designated groups in terms of the ARC Employment Equity Plan. Permanent appointments are subject to six (6) months’ probation period.
