Job Description
- Compiling and executing technical activity plans for the implementation of field and greenhouse trials relating to breeding of leafy, fruit or seed vegetables.
- Plan, conduct and supervise the execution and collection of data.
- Capture and process technical data with basic analysis.
- Compile technical reports.
- Manage project facilities, material and equipment and ensure optimal utilization of resources.
- Assist with compiling and managing project budgets.
- Develops technical capacity at an appropriate level.
- Assist in rendering technical or other research services at a national level.
Job Requirements
- BSc degree or National Diploma (3 years) in Plant Breeding / Horticulture / Plant Production; or a relevant 2-year qualification at a recognised institution plus 3 years applicable experience.
- Ability to set-up and manage research trials under open-field conditions.
- Good understanding of weed control, soil cultivation methods, fertilization, spraying for disease and pest control, irrigation systems (installation, operation and maintenance), and sustainable field management.
- Experience and good understanding of indigenous vegetable production will be an added advantage.
- Experience and good understanding of plant breeding will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of irrigation scheduling and use of soil water content monitoring equipment will be an added advantage.
- Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Job Description
- Operational Efficiency: Ensuring smooth and efficient delivery of supply chain management services to meet the organisation's operational needs and objectives. This involves establishing and monitoring performance metrics, implementing process improvements, and enhancing service quality.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitating collaboration and coordination between different teams and functions by aligning efforts and fostering effective communication, the SCM Shared Services Manager enhances the overall performance and effectiveness of the supply chain function.
- SCM Policy Norms and Standards, Monitoring and Compliance: Align SCM policy with latest legislative requirements. Liaison with National Treasury on legislative prescripts. Drive the implementation of SCM policies and conduct training and workshops for SCM officials and internal end users. Develop operational templates for SCM for standardisation.

- Manages data capture and shows advanced analysis, interpretation and recommendations
- Publishes semi-scientific and peer reviewed articles, and publishes in journals with a high impact factor.
- Builds and maintains international and national relationships and networking opportunities.
- Supervise or co-supervise PhD and MSc students with an emphasis on critical and scarce skills.
- Comply to all occupational health and safety regulations
Job Requirements
- PhD degree in Agronomy or Pasture Science
- Practical experience and technical knowledge of appropriate research projects, financial and human resource management
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in management of large data sets
- Experience in technology transfer through popular and peer-reviewed articles, conference presentations and demonstrations
- Practical experience in working with and doing research on cover crops and planted pastures
- A proven track record of supervising postgraduate students (MSc and PhD students)
- 5 years relevant experience or post PhD
- Minimum of 12 peer-reviewed papers at the date of appointment
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
