The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa. 
 
The ARC-Central Office (ARC-CO) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Hatfield, Pretoria: 
 
SYSTEMS ENGINEER (RE Advert) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
System Engineer: 
 To provide implementation, maintenance and operational support of the ARC networks, including the LAN, WAN, VOIP and Telephone system technology infrastructure on an ongoing basis; 
 Infrastructure planning - assist the Infrastructure manager to design and implement short term and long term strategic and tactical plans to ensure systems infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements; 
 To develop, administer, implement, maintain, optimise and support all new and existing ICT systems and infrastructure; 
 Ensure compliance to backup and patch management policy and procedures; 
 Provide 2nd line technical support to all institutes; 
 Ensure that all systems are secured and protected to all threats i.e. effective deployment of patches on all desktop, laptops and servers; 
 Monitoring of the IT infrastructure via Microsoft System Centre Operations Manager SCOM; 
 Ensure installation, configuration and monitoring of Antivirus in the ICT environment; 
 Review security and backup procedures and processes for improvement; 
 Ensure backups are executed as per the backup procedure and schedule; 
 Ensure Disaster Recovery is implemented and tested in line with business continuity plans; 
 Implement and maintain endpoint security; management i.e. AV and patch deployment; 
 Ensure diagnosis and resolution of security incidents; 
 Prepare technical reports; 
 
Project Management: 
 Participate and provide required technical inputs in active projects; 
 Action assigned project tasks within the required timelines; 
 
Product development 
 Actively participate in our culture of continuous development and innovation by contributing ideas for new feature and functionality; 
 
Operational
 Write reports on security incidents; 
 Participate in change control implementation. 
 
Requirements: 
 Three (3) year Diploma / Degree qualification in an IT field; 
 Formal Microsoft Security Certifications; MCSE; 
 Min 5 years Systems Engineering experience; 
 Knowledge of Microsoft Server administration - Active Directory, SCCM,SCOM and HP 
 ITIL certification will be an advantageous; 
 Knowledge of Microsoft 356 Backup software e.g. Veeam and patch deployments 
 Knowledge of Patch management and deployment via SCCM/SCOM 
 A proven ability to work under pressure; 
 Root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills 
 Effective communication and reporting skills. 
 Must be able to work in a Team Environment.

The ARC- Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC– VIMP) and Plants Health Protection (ARC - PHP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following positions at Roodeplaat, Pretoria. Responsible for Roodeplaat, Rustenburg & Loskop Facilities. 
 
FACILITIES MANAGER (RE-Advert) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Undertake effective asset management through the alignment of policies to ensure optimal utilisation, longevity, security, and safety of assets, 
 Develop and implement procedures as well as the guidelines relevant to Property management to achieve organisational excellence, 
 Perform farm management and allocate facilities through efficient and equitable management of land, offices, laboratories, associated labour and specialised field resources staff, 
 Effectively manage the budget in line with the PFMA, 
 Identify redundant and strategic facilities/assets towards optimal commercialisation and alternative gainful repurposing. Ensure compliance with the requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant/applicable regulations ensuring that a culture of safety is engendered throughout the Institute, 
 Develop and apply efficient asset maintenance management system, 
 Manage our fleet and all aspects related to transport for the Institute (including other locally based ARC fleet when required), 
 Plan, budget and manage maintenance and capital works such as laboratories, offices and houses and letting of non-core facilities and agricultural land, 
 Supply services for the removal of waste, 
 Ensure maintenance of heavy machinery, farm equipment and other equipment such as air conditioners, graders, tractors and front-end diggers, 
 Plan, direct and coordinate activities specific to facility projects requirements and ensure that goals/objectives are accomplished within time frames and funding parameters, 
 Manage staff and ensure the security of employees and ARC properties. 
 
Requirements: 
 A Degree in Facility Management or related profession, e. g, building, engineering, infrastructure environment, 
 A postgraduate qualification will be an advantage, 
 Experience and exposure to agricultural research facilities (such as research farms and laboratories) of a medium-large facility, 
 A minimum of 5 years’ experience in management position(s), preferably in a research environment, 
 Excellent interpersonal skills, 
 A proven track record of supervising staff at all levels, 
 Proficiency in MS Office suite, 
 Good communication skills, written & verbal (proficiency in at least two local languages will be an advantage), 
 Valid SA driver’s license.
