Job Description
  • Execute research in laboratory, field and greenhouses.

  • Correctly apply techniques within guidelines/standards/references.
  • Ensures cost-effective utilization of research resources.

Job Requirements
  • BSc or BTech in Plant Breeding/Plant Production.

Job Description
  • Conduct analysis of chemical nature.
  • Chemical analysis will include, but is not limited to, analysis on infrared instruments to test for fat, protein, lactose, somatic cell count, milk urea nitrogen, total solids and solids non-fat, pH and freezing point depression. Wet Chemistry analysis for the determination of fat, total solids, etc.
  • Correctly apply techniques within specified guidelines.
  • Timeously complete technical tasks according to set quality and accreditation standards.
  • Efficiently plan and schedule analytical services in accordance with given instructions.
  • Cost-effective and accurate sample analysis in compliance with target dates and available resources.
  • Properly collect, process, and capture data.
  • Accurate, timely, and reliable reporting of analytical results.
  • Assist with administrative duties of the laboratory information management system (data capturing).
  • Cost-effective stock control according to regulations.
  • Assist with procurement of chemicals etc.

  • National Diploma (3 years) in Chemistry or equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
  • BSc degree in Chemistry or equivalent will be an added advantage.
  • Good conceptual, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate and high-quality analysis and give attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy in Word & Excel.

Job Description
  • Along with gene bank manager, manage field and nursery gene bank blocks at TSC research farms.
  • Maintain existing gene bank database and upgrade to meet international norms in the field.
  • Expand scope of existing field gene banks to include laboratory-based storage solutions using in vitro technologies.
  • Ability to work in the field and laboratory.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly progress reports in the form of written reports and presentations.
  • Identify research opportunities and implement improved gene bank management technologies.
  • Collects, captures and processes data.
  • Provide leadership to Research Technicians, Assistants and Students.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with Researchers, Research Support Assistants and Farm Managers for daily activities.
  • Write popular/scientific publications and present research outcomes.
 
Job Requirements
  • PhD in Horticulture/Biological/Natural Sciences.
  • Minimum of 3 years applicable experience in research support.
  • Experience with database management will be an added advantage.
  • Proven record of at least 3 scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences.
