Job Description
- Execute research in laboratory, field and greenhouses.
- Collect, process and capture data.
- Pro-actively provide technical input within the context of the research projects.
- Provides timeous and reliable data which supports the objectives of the research project.
- Correctly apply techniques within guidelines/standards/references.
- Ensures cost-effective utilization of research resources.
- Contribute towards quarterly progress reports.
- Contribute towards a reliable final report on technical data according to research objectives.
- Assists in hosting field days.
- Assists in communication with farmers and extension officers.
- Assists with technical services.
- Regulatory Compliance with the Health and Safety procedures.
- Compliance with Lab safety.
Job Requirements
- BSc or BTech in Plant Breeding/Plant Production.
- BSc Honors in Plant Breeding/Plant Production will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge and experience working with tropical and subtropical crops will be an added advantage
- Knowledge in Horticultural practices will be an added advantage.
- Experience in data collection and trial management will be an added advantage.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and in a team.
- Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in in the MS Office suite.
- A valid drivers’ license with driving experience.

Job Requirements

- Familiarity with plant breeding protocols, such as controlled pollination, hybridization, and selection.
- Knowledge in the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
- Competence in using agricultural tools and machinery safely and effectively.
- Proven expertise in horticulture and plant production techniques, with a strong focus on fruit tree breeding and propagation methods will be an added advantage.

- Conduct analysis of chemical nature.
- Chemical analysis will include, but is not limited to, analysis on infrared instruments to test for fat, protein, lactose, somatic cell count, milk urea nitrogen, total solids and solids non-fat, pH and freezing point depression. Wet Chemistry analysis for the determination of fat, total solids, etc.
- Correctly apply techniques within specified guidelines.
- Timeously complete technical tasks according to set quality and accreditation standards.
- Efficiently plan and schedule analytical services in accordance with given instructions.
- Cost-effective and accurate sample analysis in compliance with target dates and available resources.
- Properly collect, process, and capture data.
- Accurate, timely, and reliable reporting of analytical results.
- Assist with administrative duties of the laboratory information management system (data capturing).
- Cost-effective stock control according to regulations.
- Assist with procurement of chemicals etc.
- Maintain and ensure that equipment is in working order and compliance with applicable quality standards.

Job Requirements
- National Diploma (3 years) in Chemistry or equivalent.
- 3 years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
- BSc degree in Chemistry or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Good conceptual, analytical, and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate and high-quality analysis and give attention to detail.
- Computer literacy in Word & Excel.
- The ability to organize, prioritize, and work systematically.
- Communicate in English, (Good communication skills).

- Skilled to work as part of the team as well as independently.
- In possession of a valid SA driver’s license.
