The Community Farmer Network (CFN) is a social enterprise of Siyazisiza Trust and is a registered for-profit company that aims to meet or exceed the growing customer demand in South Africa for high-quality, ethically sourced fresh-produce and processed goods. CFN concentrated on growing agri-business and supply chains. 
 
The ARC-Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC– VIMP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following position at the Community Farmer Network (Mtunzini): 
 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: AAKTP ASSOCIATE: BRAND & SUPPLY CHAIN DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR 
(15 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Background 
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC), working in collaboration with Community Farmer Network (CFN) and in partnership with the University of York, have secured project funding from Innovate UK under the Africa AgriFood Knowledge Transfer Partnership (AAKTP) scheme. The partnership aims to increase the capacity and reliability of CFN’s existing supply chains and build new supply chains for high-quality products from indigenous/traditional climate-resilient crops grown by smallholder farmer networks. 
The partners intend to recruit a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate for the project. The KTP Associate will be a Brand & Supply Chain Coordinator who will based at CFN in Mtunzini and whose primary aims under the partnership are: 
 To support the partnership’s aim of increasing the commercial viability of smallholder farmers growing climate resilient crops, 
 To support the opening up of new markets by building the CFN brand based upon the unique selling points of indigenous crops, climate resilience & rural development. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
The KTP Associates primary responsibilities will include but not limited to: 
 Design and implement processes and systems to manage the flow of products and information across the entire value chain from seed to market, 
 Develop and implement food safety, traceability and quality management systems for rural smallholders, 
 Build relationships with food processors, national retailers, and health & wellness companies to open up new markets for smallholder farmers, 
 Develop a unique brand and market messaging positioned around smallholder farmers, indigenous/traditional crops, and building climate-resilience in rural communities, 
 Lead the design, implementation, and management of necessary food hygiene standards required by the market, 
 Implement and manage culture change processes to enable scaling up of the supply chain in response to both market demand and increased smallholder geographic reach, 
 Work closely with smallholder farmers to improve their capacity and understanding of the value chain and improve their access to market opportunities, 
 Monitor and report on progress against key programme objectives and targets, 
 Ensure compliance with programme policies, procedures, and donor requirements, 
 Undertake any tasks that may reasonably be requested by the company. 
 
Requirements (Qualifications and Experience): 
 Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Marketing, or related field, 
 At least 5 years of relevant experience in supply chain management and brand development in the agriculture or food sector, 
 Strong understanding of food safety, traceability, and quality management systems, 
 Experience in building relationships with key stakeholders, including food processors, national retailers, and health & wellness companies, 
 Experience in developing and implementing brand strategies and market messaging,
 Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, 
 Proven track record of delivering results in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, 
 Ability to work effectively in a team environment and lead teams to achieve project objectives, 
 Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, 
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications,
 Advanced computer literacy, 
 Compliance to safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act,

RE- ADVERT SENIOR RESEARCHER: CROP PROTECTION (PLANT PATHOLOGY) 
Salary (R586 283 – R879 422 pa) all-inclusive remuneration package 
Reporting directly to the Research Team Manager Crop Protection, this position requires a hard-working scientist and a self-starter to conduct research on tropical and subtropical fruit crops in the field of Plant Pathology. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Initiate/manage research programmes on subtropical fruit diseases, 
 Write publications/make presentations of relevance to subtropical fruit growers and the scientific community, 
 Provide research leadership and mentoring to research technicians, assistants and students, 
 Re-evaluate control programmes and detection techniques for diseases of subtropical crops and development of improved alternatives, 
 Identify viral and fungal pathogens and provide advice on control, 
 Liaise with growers and industry technical officers, 
 Perform data analysis of trials and generate Intellectual Property, 
 Develop project proposals in line with presidential imperatives, strategic goals and research themes of the ARC, 
 Contribute to the status of the ARC through high quality research findings/products in compliance with generally accepted scientific standards,

 Responsible for compiling reports as required by management. 
 
Requirements: 
 PhD in Plant Virology/Plant Pathology, 
 Minimum of 5 years’ applicable post-doctoral research experience on diseases of subtropical crops or other relevant crops, 
 In depth knowledge of Plant Virology/Plant Pathology and molecular detection techniques applicable to this field, 
 Proven record of at least 12 peer reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences and symposia, 
 Proven record of accomplishment such that expertise and scientific standing is acknowledged at national level and moving towards the international level with a proven history of building national and international partnerships and networks, 
 Proven record of accomplishment as being an invited national speaker and actively participating as a speaker internationally or being involved/invited as a participant in national/international events, 
 Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage,
