The ARC-Grain Crops (ARC– GC) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following positions at Potchefstroom:
 
SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: SORGHUM
Salary (R381 841– R572 759 All-inclusive remuneration p.a)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Together with Project Manager, co-ordinates and contributes towards project, by compiling and executing technical project activities plans for field trials,
 Identifies the need for human resources in project(s) (where applicable with the Chief Technician and/or Project Manager) and manages the allocated resources,
 Assist with compiling and managing project budgets and purchases,
 Plans and co-ordinates own and technical project work activities,
 Manages projects facilities, material and equipment. Ensures optimal utilisation of resources,

Requirements:

Key Performance Areas:
 Initiates, manages and contributes towards national projects,

 Actively sources new national research opportunities and writes proposals,

 Supervise or co-supervise PhD and M.Sc. students with an emphasis on critical and scarce skills.
 
 Requirements:
 PhD in plant pathology - preferable epidemiology/ fungal molecular biology and genetics / plant biochemistry or alternatively MSc plus 5 years minimum work experience with extensive publications,
 Experience in epidemiology, molecular biology and plant biochemistry in grain crops,
 National scientific recognition will be an added advantage,

Key Performance Areas:
 Working closely with the head of HCM, Marketing & Legal Services teams to ensure the alignment of the all the services to the ARC's strategy and business requirement;
 Building effective HCM, Marketing & Legal Services operation relationships across the ARC and becoming a trusted advisor to stakeholders;
 Influencing and guiding on relevant people priorities and initiatives and effectively delivering an excellent operational and support service;

The ARC-Plant Health and Protection seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at the Vredenburg campus: Stellenbosch
 
 
ARTISAN ASSISTANT
(SALARY: R 123 816 – R 185 727 ALL INCLUSIVE PACKDGE P.A)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Undertake general repairs to buildings and other farm structures, including amongst others painting, repairing roofs and gutters, repairing leaking pipes and taps, replacing glass windows, welding and other such tasks as necessary,
 Clearing and watering of flower beds,
 Cutting of grass on the campus,
 Removing rubbish and routine maintenance tasks,
 Responsible for general maintenance of hygiene,
 Compliance with general health and safety regulations (demonstrate visible use of safety equipment),
 Ability to work under pressure and handling of heavy workload at times,
 Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.
 
Requirements:
 Grade 12
 Prior experience will be an added advantage;
 Great learning capability,
 Ability to work in a team,
 Shows good understanding of what the job requires (Take accountability and responsibility),
 Has competence, confidence and trustworthy,
 Code B or EB drivers’ license.

The ARC-Small Grain (ARC-SG) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Bethlehem, Free State:
 
POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW: EXTERNAL FUNDED
(SALARY: R200 000 All-inclusive Package p.a)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Assist to identify adaptive or new research needs (needs analysis) in line with the grain industries in SA,
 Conducts independent research under the supervision of nationally and internationally renowned senior/specialist/principal researchers,
 Identifies and pursues strategic research collaboration opportunities on small grains,
 Involvement in project conception, initiation, and planning,
 Collaborate and interact with research teams across ARC and universities to ensure broad application of genomics and “omics’ technologies for crop improvement,
 Assist in supervising postgraduate students in advanced Plant Genomics and Genetics,
 
Requirements:
• A PhD in Crop Sciences/Plant Breeding and Genetics/Genomics, Molecular Biology or related field,
• Must have completed PhD within the last 5 years,
• Ability to manage research projects,
• Must have a good academic track record.
