AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Port Elizabeth:
SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN BEEF AND DAIRY CATTLE IMPROVEMENT
Key Performance Areas:
Execute service provision pertaining to phase A, B, C and D tests, with the focus on phase C and D tests,
Draw up Milk Recording input data for processing, monthly reports with regard to field statistics,
Training of both clients and ARC personnel in technological developments pertaining to daily cattle performance testing with emphasis on livestock manager,
Perform functions which include data capturing, processing and the generation, interpretation and submission of technical Intergis reports,
On-farm servicing,
Conduct training sessions, workshops and consultations with internal and external clients,
Supervision of staff as well as compiling reports,
Assist with compiling and managing budgets,
Market the schemes through marketing initiatives,
Arrange and coordinate farmers’ days, training sessions and workshops,
Assist in budget management, sourcing quotations and procurement of goods and services,
General administrative maintenance of document system,
Comply with health and safety regulations.
Requirements:
M-Tech. Degree in Animal Production plus 2 years applicable experience OR B-Tech Degree in Animal Production plus 6 years applicable experience; OR A 3 year National Diploma in Animal Production plus 8 years applicable experience,
3 years’ experience in Performance testing technologies and/or activities an added advantage,
Knowledge on maintenance of equipment and infrastructure needed for research,
Knowledge of safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act,
Good communication skills (written and verbal),
Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite,
A valid South African driver’s license.
