AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC-Plant Health and Protection seeks to appoint an experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Roodeplaat.
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN (FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
Key Performance Areas:
• Collection and analysis of research data in support of biocontrol research of an invasive alien plants, including Cestrum, Lantana, Tithonia and Tecoma species.
• Maintenance of insect cultures and test plants required for screening of potential agents.
• Setting up experiments (e.g. host specificity tests, bioassays)
• Mass-rearing, release and monitoring of biocontrol agents.
• Conduct field work.
• General maintenance and management of laboratory equipment.
Requirements:
• At least a National Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent NQF 6.
• Evidence of research experience in weed biocontrol or insect/plant interactions.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and work systematically.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer literate.
• Valid driver’s license for South Africa.
